The student worked on a homework packet and conceptual analysis of the air capacitor. In the assignment, she was asked to compare and contrast the various mechanisms of capacitor in circuit versus an air capacitor in circuit with an air pump. She compared the function of the pump and the battery pack. We also had some time left at the end of the session to look at geometry and some homework on parallelograms.

During this session, we mainly covered work. We looked at how work is related to force. We also discussed how it is related to kinetic and potential energy. We also discussed power and how it is related to work. We ended by looking at work and how it relates to spring systems. This included finding the spring constant for a spring given various parameters.

In today's session, we went into more detail talking about work, energy, and power. While working on a marble on a track problem, we noted that if there is no friction to take away energy, it can only change between potential and kinetic forms. We spent a lot of time on how levers can be used to do work with less force by acting over a greater distance. Later in the session, we discussed how the force of gravity decreases with the -square- of the distance, so a spaceship twice as far from the earth experiences only a force of the force (weight).
