Garden Grove, CA Physics tutoring
This was a great session. We covered the line integrals of vector fields and went over some more practice problems that the student had. We also went over how to parametrize curves and did a brief review of Green's theorem and Stokes' Theorem. He was very receptive as we covered these topics and followed along well. He aims to practice some more tonight in order to improve on the material.

In this session, the student and I went over the concepts of gravitational and electrical forces, as well as momentum. We spent a lot of time reviewing a homework assignment he was working on and used that as a guideline for our session. He had gotten the correct answer to many questions but wasn't sure why. I addressed this by letting him explain to me why he answered certain things the way he did and encouraging him to trust his instincts. He seemed to have difficulties setting up certain problems, so I showed him how drawing a picture of the situation is an invaluable tool. I also showed him a trick I use to deal with doing calculations that involve many numbers in scientific notation. We spent the last half of our session discussing momentum, when it is conserved, how to use conservation of momentum to solve problems, and when it is not conserved, how to calculate a change in momentum. He is very good at math, so I tried to focus on a conceptual understanding, which is invaluable. I was very happy to see him understanding why we use certain equations, not just how to plug the numbers into them.
