Session Summaries by Physics Tutors

Physics Tutoring review by Alana in Cedar Lake, IN
This was my first session with the student and it went really well. We worked on relativity for most of the session because her teacher had started going over some of the concepts. We took it a step further and started going over equations for length and time so that she will be ready when her class starts tackling actual relativity problems. She didn't seem to have any trouble with any of the concepts and she does a fantastic job with all of the math and algebra involved in solving these problems. After doing several practice problems in relativity, we reviewed some kinematics problems and she did excellently with those as well.

Physics Tutoring review by Anna in Cedar Lake, IN
The student worked on homework from the chapter on simple harmonic motion and used Hooke's law F=-kx, information about the period, frequency, mass, and dimensions of a system, the mechanical energy of simple harmonic motion E=1/2kA^2, , E=1/2kx^2, T=2pisqrt(m/k).

Physics Tutoring review by Christine in Cedar Lake, IN
We went over her new notes on potential energy, potential difference, and capacitance. We spent a lot of time on evaluating how electric field, charge, voltage, capacitance and energy stored change when you vary different properties of capacitors. We also spent a lot of time on the difference between potential and kinetic energy, but she still seemed to have some confusion about that at the end of the session. I told her to look at both of those concepts again before her quiz on Friday.
