Physics Tutoring review by Ishaan in Apple Valley, MN
We went over introductory thermodynamics today and looked at how solids and gasses expand. We examined the length expansion formula for heated objects and the volume expansion formula for gasses. Finally, we looked at the ideal gas law and how to compare versions of the law in two different temperature states.

Physics Tutoring review by Anne Marie in Apple Valley, MN
We went over review questions for the student's upcoming exam. We focused on charging or discharging circuits, charged particles in a magnetic field, and the Kirchhoff loop law. To solve for charging or discharging circuits, we used the Kirchhoff loop law to define a differential equation. We can then solve for the charge, current, or voltage at a given time or solve for any of the other variables. We also looked at charge particle motion in a magnetic field or electric field, using the summation of forces to set up the equations. We also looked at cyclotron motion, setting the magnetic force to F=ma, where a is centripetal acceleration, so F=qvB=mv^2/r.

We went over the student's homework problems from class. The material covered intensity, Doppler shift, and the harmonics. I want to suggest that the student go over the theory of the Doppler shift and how the formulae are derived. Also, look at how the formulae for the harmonics are derived depending on whether both or one end is fixed, or both ends open.

Physics Tutoring review by Anastasia in Apple Valley, MN
We worked on drawing free body diagrams then applying Newton's second law to solve problems. The student became confident in drawing free body diagrams. We still need to practice calculating net force and using Newton's second law.

Physics Tutoring review by Brett in Apple Valley, MN
We worked on physics chapters from the student's textbook involving conservation of energy problems, including kinetic, potential, gravitational, and potential energy of a spring. We also worked on problems to calculate work, some kinematics equations, power, etc.

Physics Tutoring review by Miguel in Apple Valley, MN
We worked through a review of some problems involving Newton's Second Law and tension. This subject in physics tends to confuse most students, and we emphasized a full understanding of the formula F=ma (vector form), identifying component and net forces, and breaking a system into its internal forces correctly. The student will do better and better as he practices applying the formula correctly, identifying the target unknown values in drawings, and selecting the correct equations for the problems at hand. He was able to explain the problems back to me much better by the end of the session. I hope to hear of more success on this homework, as I did with the previous one.
