Hi! My name is Brooke, and I am a 9th Grade ELA teacher in New York City. I grew up in Rhode Island, and went to college in Pennsylvania. I love to read and write, and I am passionate about passing my love of literature on to my students. I am also passionate about giving them the skills necessary to think critically about the world. I want to push my students to solve complex problems, and never settle for less than their potential. I love to tutor students who may need help in my spare time, because it allows me to continue helping students! I know the value of out-of-school support and I want to help provide that to as many students as possible!

Raised in Great Britain and in Germany, I have studied classical music, playing the piano as well as classical voice (opera) at the Conservatory in Munich, Germany as well as in Vienna, Austria and thus, much enjoy the arts. In addition to my artistic background, I also carry an academic background in biology and am hexa-lingual. Upon my arrival in the U.S., I obtained a degree of B.S. in finance from Rutgers University and have worked within the financial industry as a financial analyst as well as as an accountant for over ten years. Nevertheless, I have always carried a profound interest in teaching and tutoring throughout my career while working on Wall Street and within the financial industry. In particular, I enjoy English literature, mathematics, the sciences as well as learning and teaching languages.With time, I increasingly became aware of my fondness for tutoring and teaching while helping youngsters, adolescents and adults alike with a variety of subjects and thus, decided to dedicate my time further to tutoring and teaching.

I am a graduate of Ashland College where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Education. Later, I graduated with a Master's degree from Marygrove College in the art of teaching. During my 35 year career, I have taught seventh and eighth graders, kindergarten, fifth graders, and second graders. I began to tutor online five years ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed working with students individually or in small groups. I am able to instruct on a more personal level working this way. My favorite subjects are English, Reading, Math, and History. I strive to help students do their best while making learning fun. I am very excited to teach your child. I hope to see you in class!

I am a tutor because of all of the great tutors that influenced me throughout my academic career. I was always a good student, but I believe that the tutors that have been in my life helped me to become an outstanding student and tutor. With their help, I was able to finish high school at the top of my class and go on to receive my Bachelor of Arts in English from Emory University. I am currently studying at Morehouse School of Medicine located in Atlanta, GA.My tutoring experience began in high school where I tutored students and my peers in all subjects ranging from phonics to calculus. Throughout college, I continued to tutor students from elementary school all the way up to those in college. After graduating college, I worked with a professional tutoring company for two years where I learned a variety of different tutoring techniques to apply to different learning styles. I have experience tutoring a variety of different subjects such as biology, chemistry, English (both language and literature), and multiple levels of math (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus). My ultimate goal as a tutor is to have students truly understand a concept and then to move ahead.I have embraced the idea that learning is a different experience for everyone. For some, it takes no time at all, while for others it is an extremely difficult task. All in all learning takes effort. With this idea in mind, my tutoring methods are extremely flexible to meet the need of every student that I come into contact with. At the end of the day, the student should feel a sense of understanding that they did not have before. I strongly believe that learning should be a fun experience so that what you learn sticks with you.Aside from being a tutor, I am a huge sports fanatic, especially football (both college and professional)—Go DAWGS & Go FALCONS! I also have a passion for cars. I am an amateur figure skater and love to read & shop during my free time. The thing that I value the most is my family. I believe in going after your dreams and doing all that you can to achieve your goals; and I truly believe that education is one of the most valuable tools you can have.

I have five years of formal teaching experience - working in various public school settings, in various positions. I also have been working with children for over twenty years, I have worked in many different positions that allowed me the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children and teens of all ages. Some of those jobs include; babysitting, life guarding at a summer camp (teaching swimming lessons), travel summer camp counselor, Preschool teacher, coaching cheerleading, privately tutoring, as well as tutoring with agencies. My experience tutoring is over five years. I have worked with students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, in all subjects (including ELA, Math, Art, and everything in between). I love coming up with new and fun ways to help a student learn a challenging topic or strategy. I am a very creative person and love creating manipulatives and differentiations for my students that are based on their own learning style (whether it is visual, kinesthetic, etc.) I am currently a Teaching Assistant in a 12:1:1 setting and I volunteer my free time to my High School Varsity Cheerleading team coaching. Lastly I am Red Cross certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid. I look forward to helping your child become a successful lifelong learner who finds the joy in learning.

I have been an elementary teacher for 7 years in several grade levels. I enjoy teaching all areas but especially love math and reading. These are passions of mine, and you can often find me reading my own books whenever I have time. I believe that a positive environment is the key to learning. When students are happy, safe, and enjoying their tasks, they acquire new information much more quickly and easily. It is my mission to always create this environment with my students and those I tutor. I find teaching to be like an offshore fishing trip for tuna. There is a lot of preparation, a long trip is to be expected, but there is nothing like the excitement when you are in the moment and the pay-off at the end of the day is priceless. As a teacher, I bring interest, wonderment, and a sense of accomplishment to the students. Positive behavior support is at the foundation for all of my lessons. I feel that the students deserve to know when they are mastering a skill as well as praise for giving it a try. When looking for a solution to a problem from my students I find there is no wrong answer, only steps toward to learning something new. Finally, I believe the atmosphere between the children and teacher should be light-hearted with structure having an air of safety to blanket the class.
