I have been tutoring all levels of Spanish for over 10 years. I love working with students on an individual basis to help them succeed in their class. I understand that foreign languages don't come easy for everyone. I actually almost failed my first year of Spanish in high school. However, with hard work and persistence, I ended up excelling in my classes and now, more than 15 years later, I am a Spanish translator and interpreter. I know what worked for me when I was struggling, so I like to incorporate those same strategies with other students. I like to use humor and word associations to help students remember things. I get along with any type of personality and have a passion for working with special needs students as well. I have worked with students from age 8 to 68! I received my Bachelor of Arts in Global and International Studies from Michigan State University and I am currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have primarily worked with adult ESL/EFL learners, as well as middle school EFL learners. Right now I'm working full time as a research associate at a biotech company in Cleveland, but I've been tutoring part time since my early college years. I've also spent a lot of one-on-one time with students while coaching high school sailing and instructing summer camps.I am strongest at tutoring math and science. My favorite class to tutor is calculus, also the most challenging. I can help with AP, SAT, and ACT standardized test prep. I am also certified as an Assistant Lab Animal Technician through AALAS. I have a bunch of study tips, test taking strategies and general plans for success in school that look forward to sharing with students.I like to view school work holistically - for example, if we're stuck on the geometry chapter focused on circles, let's make sure we fully understand the preceding topics before we dive into the new one. Also, if we're stuck writing a paper, let's make sure we did the necessary research, outline, and planning before we put pen to paper. And most importantly, I try to impress upon students that sleep, stress levels, and overall wellness can be sneaky factors that inhibit students abilities to succeed.
