I am a doctorate level biochemist and have been teaching chemistry, biology, and anatomy/physiology for the past 5 years at the university level. I received a B.S. in chemistry from Norfolk State University and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. I love tutoring science! Biology and chemistry are my passion because they help explain the world around us. Everything we see, hear, taste, smell, and feel can be attributed to biology and chemistry. I believe all students possess the aptitude to be successful, and through positive interactions this potential can be attained. Also, by establishing an educational environment of communal interaction, students can better develop critical thinking and problem solving skills and overall academic development will be improved. My teaching style includes establishing a firm foundation in scientific concepts and building up each student, step-by-step, until our goals have been met or exceeded. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, sports, good conversation, and learning new things.

I believe knowledge is the best and most applicable skill you can have, that's why I love tutoring. Everyone has those subjects they need a little more understanding in, and I love helping people answer their own questions. Getting the right answer is always important, but I think understanding how you got there is the most integral part. I love working with people to find out how they approach a problem and seeing how they think gives me a better understanding on how to help them. After working with countless high school student, during high school, I know there is no single, definitive way to solve a problem. I encourage kids to come up with there own path towards solving a problem while I guide them along the way. This is my first professional tutoring job and I look forward to finding more ways to help students learn in a manner that they like. Probably my favorite subjects to teach are science and math course, i.e. algebra, chemistry, physics, etc. I love these subjects because they are the fundamentals of the entire universe. Right now, I'm working towards a degree in computer science, but I've thought about switching that over to mathematics-well because I love math. Outside of school subjects; I play video games, do cross country, and like watching documentaries and superhero films.

My name is Susan Pham and I graduated OSU-Stillwater with three degrees: Biochemistry and molecular biology, mathematics, and chemistry. I will be available to teach math, biology, and chemical classes up to the senior undergraduate levels. During high-school, I have made a 29 on my ACT (30+ on math, reading, and science portions) and 4's on my AP English and AP calculus standardized testings, so I can also tutor that. I have also made an A on creative writing, and a non-fiction writing course, so I am able to edit and help in the writing process of essays.

I am a graduate of the University of Albany. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Biology. After taking extensive math and science courses, I later realized that anyone can learn anything through practice and repetition. Majoring in biology was not easy and most of my time was spent teaching myself the material. Independent studying is good because you come up with different ways to learn the material, which is helpful when teaching someone else. The rest of my time was spent participating in study groups, where colleagues and I would teach each other. From my previous experience as a student and as a tutor, I have learned that understanding a subject depends greatly on how the material is presented. That is why it is important for me to be able to adapt to the student's preferred teaching style or one that they are most comfortable with. Once you figure that out, learning becomes fun!

I am passionate about helping students because I think that learning is important and that every student should have the opportunity to succeed. I personally loved going to school and learning and want to help other students love learning by finding approaches that work for them!I have mentored students in Middle School for the past 4 years through a local program. Through this program, I started to realize how much I enjoyed working with students to help them achieve their goals. I recently was chosen to help facilitate a local chapter of the Girls Who Code club and will be working with students from 6 - 12th grade to help to teach coding and foster an innovative mindset.I attended the University of Pittsburgh and hold a B.S. in Computer Science. I am currently working towards getting my Master's in Computer Science.I tutor for Math, Science, and Computer Science.I really enjoy helping students with Math. I personally have always loved Math but understand that not everyone feels that way! I like to help people also enjoy Math.My teaching/tutoring style relies on getting to know the student and incorporating their interests into the subject area (if possible). This helps to engage the student and make connections to things in which they are already interested.Outside of academia, I work full-time as a Software Developer and also assist my employer with corporate training for software products. I enjoy getting to spend time mentoring local middle schoolers and volunteering with non-profits in the area.

I am a recent graduate from SUNY Albany with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and business administration minor. I enjoy learning about most science and math courses.During my undergraduate studies, I was given the opportunity to tutor students from elementary to high school as a part of a work study program. I really enjoyed tutoring students in areas of difficulty and making a difference in their academic progress. It also gave me a great way to review material I took in the past.I have also translated Arabic for over four years at elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the capital region. I assisted in translating official NY state examinations, including the Common Core and Regents Exams, so I am very familiar with their formats and can help students on how to go about solving difficult questions.

As a life-long student with a passion for learning myself, I am excited at the opportunity to share my enthusiasm and expertise in the sciences and social sciences with others. I think every student, at every level can benefit from one-on-one learning; and can excel in an active learning environment where they are comfortable asking questions and engaging with material in their own way. In particular, I have a passion for working with those who struggle to find a system of academic organization and time management that works for them, and those students who need extra help in catering studying to their style of learning. In my own experiences as I student I have benefited from trying new methods and techniques in and outside of the classroom – and I want to offer that to students who may benefit from it as well.

Arithmetic Tutor • +17 Subjects

My name is Antoine, and I love teaching. I first garnered my love for teaching through the organization 4-H, which uses non-traditional teaching methods, namely experiential learning. I love planning and implementing fun educational workshops in any subject, but especially those I'm passionate about.I have taught courses in music, leadership, biology, through formal settings, and numerous other subjects in a non-traditional settings. I substitute teach, particularly math subjects, but am flexible in which subjects I will approach. I love when I get to substitute and actually continue a lesson for a series of classes, and not just give busy work for them to do until their teacher returns the next day.Tutoring is fun because I get to connect with a student on their level and make the subject matter relevant to them; no matter how frivolous they've determined it to be. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn, so I always take the proper care and time to foster that within all students.
