I am in my last year at Fordham University as a Natural Science major. I am pursuing a career as a dentist. I have been a tutor for 4 years and have tutored students in Math, English, Biology, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. I enjoy tutoring all subjects; however I especially enjoy tutoring the sciences. Tutoring students in subjects they struggle with brings me a great joy and I truly love what I do. I understand how it feels to struggle through a subject, but getting through the struggle is the best part and is always so rewarding.I am always excited to work with new students and help them achieve this rewarding experience!

I have decided to tutor because I have had my own struggles in certain classes over the years and I think I have learned some good strategies to help overcome learning difficult material. Moreover, I am very passionate about science and truly enjoy discussing the topics I teach. I am comfortable tutoring any level of biology through the college level, most college level Chemistry and Physics classes and any high school courses. Additionally, I scored in the 89th Percentile on my MCAT last fall and would love to tutor MCAT prep as well!

I began tutoring during my second semester of college, as a student tutor at Stevens Institute of Technology, and continued throughout undergraduate completion. I was able to become a student tutor as a freshman due to the AP credit I received in Calculus I/II and Physics I. This allowed for 3.5 years of student tutoring as well as opened up many opportunities for off-campus tutoring jobs. Overall, I have had an amazing experience tutoring high school and college level math and science subjects!My undergraduate degree is in Mathematics with completed pre-medical requirements, as my future plans involve medical school. However, I would love to always continue tutoring because it truly is a job that I value doing. I recognize how fortunate I was to have had excellent math and science teachers, since grammar school, and am very passionate about contributing the same experience to others. Having good instruction from a young age makes higher level math and science much less intimidating!In fact, I have found that most students struggle with a lack of confidence due to the intimidating nature of math and science and, after helping them overcome their distrust in themselves, I find that that was their biggest obstacle after all. Furthermore, my method of tutoring is always to work toward providing a solid conceptual understanding of each subject I tutor!

Two and a half years ago, while studying Biotechnology at the University of Georgia I began my tutoring career in Chemistry and ESL. I quickly realized I was a great tutor, and enjoyed tutoring, which lead me to start my own Organic Chemistry test prep service, CHEM911. After graduating I took a gap year before applying to medical school to teach English to students in South Korea. I know that teaching and tutoring will always be a part of my life and aspire to ultimately work as a doctor who trains incoming medical students. My former students say that I am talented at explaining difficult concepts in easy terms and at making learning enjoyable. As a tutor, I pride myself in putting in a lot of time outside of the tutoring session to prepare for each student's individual needs so that our time together will be as efficient as possible.

Throughout high school I excelled in my science classes, but it wasn't until my sophomore year in college that an Organic Chemistry professor pointed out my passion for chemistry .Shortly after that experience, I decided to immerse myself in the subject and thus graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry (coupled with substantial research experience).Thankfully, I had the opportunity to tutor high school and college students while I completed my studies, which made me realize the importance of having a mentor that is willing to teach, guide, and encourage his/her students along the way. With that being said, I am happy to say that several of my students have moved on to medical school (while rocking their Chemistry classes!).Chemistry may seem like a daunting subject at first, but I encourage all of my students to keep an open mind and give me the chance to show them how chemistry isn't so bad.

Currently, I am attending SF State University and am attaining my M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry. In addition, I enjoy teaching both biology and chemistry during my spare time-- this is my passion. I teach these subjects to all ages and strive to improve scientific literacy in my own way, that is, being an effective tutor.Moreover, my method of tutoring is particularly effective, because I get to know what type of learner the student is (e.g. visual learner, hands-on learner, etc.) and present the material in this way. I graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology on the pre-optometry track. During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to engage in diverse research projects, including the effects of a sunscreen chemical on breast cancer progression and the relationship between diet and teen depression. Additionally, I frequently traveled to my home country of Sudan, where I volunteered in local hospitals and clinics, shadowing optometrists and other medical professionals. This experience ignited my passion for optometry, leading me to pursue a career as an eye doctor.Alongside my commitment to optometry, I have a strong passion for teaching. I teach a variety of subjects, including biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and the OAT/DAT admissions test. As an organic chemistry teaching assistant, I emphasized pattern recognition and effective study techniques, earning awards and recognition for my teaching methods. I believe that failure only occurs when one stops trying, so I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking creatively.I am excited to continue tutoring as I continue my journey to Optometry School at New England College of Optometry.
