West Cambridge Non-Euclidean Geometry Tutoring FAQ
Geometry, as it is covered in most high school and introductory-level college curricula, can usually be interpreted as the study of Euclidean geometry - that is, geometry that takes a flat planar surface as its basis and imagines that parallel lines never intersect. Geometry that ignores this particular postulate, called non-Euclidean geometry, wasn't widely established and accepted as a theoretically viable alternative to the traditional Euclidean paradigm until the first part of the nineteenth century. Additionally, there are a variety of different geometries that fall under the umbrella term non-Euclidean. Non-Euclidean geometry can seem like very strange terrain, given its shift away from previous coursework and the variety of subfields it encompasses. Whether you are learning about one particular aspect of non-Euclidean geometry or many of them, studying the history of this branch of mathematics and the effects it inspired in other fields, or working to understand the non-Euclidean geometric concepts foundational to your research or other coursework, a non-Euclidean geometry tutor can help.
All across the country, Varsity Tutors' educational directors can help connect you with a personal tutor who can aid you in mastering the particular aspects of non-Euclidean geometry that you need in order to meet your goals and succeed in your particular field. Your hand-chosen tutor is able to identify your strengths and weaknesses, evaluate your growth and development, and organize your study sessions for optimal effect. Further, they are well-versed in breaking down difficult concepts into easily digested and understood steps. They will factor in your unique learning style to ensure that your sessions resonate with you. When you call Varsity Tutors, they will help you build a student profile that gives your potential tutors the opportunity to determine if they are well-suited to you and allows them to build a basis for your custom-tailored tutoring plan.

With an individualized process and plan, this allows you to freely study whatever you want as long as you need to. If you need to spend multiple sessions working on one concept or just a few minutes on another, the tutoring plan is flexible and easily adjusted to suit your needs. Your tutor can design a curriculum for your tutoring sessions that addresses only the aspects of non-Euclidean geometry that you need to master to excel in your current course, to design your research project, or to succeed in the challenges presented by your particular professional field. Further, they are able to provide assistance during class projects or with homework.
Because each session is one-on-one, you can have your instructor's complete attention and work at your own pace. You do not have to worry about keeping up with or slowing down to match the pace of a class, and your instructor can provide immediate feedback and answer any questions that arise from the subject material as you work through it. Non-Euclidean geometry challenges you to consider geometry in an entirely new and unfamiliar way, so its easy to get overwhelmed when studying it alone or in a class full of many other students. With a personal tutor, each session is about you. You can feel free to request in-person meetings or face-to-face online tutoring sessions using our live learning platform.
Your tutor can arrange your sessions around your schedule. Whether you need to meet in the morning, afternoon, or evenings, you can easily arrange these to ensure that you have time for everything you need to do during the week. Work with an expert non-Euclidean geometry instructor to overcome any confusion that you encounter when learning about this complex subject. Recent West Cambridge Non-Euclidean Geometry Tutoring Session Notes
Final session. Today we reviewed the volume, area, and perimeter. The student did well calculating the volume of various shapes. We also reviewed converting units in the metric system. I showed her how to easily multiply and divide by multiples of ten. We also reviewed translating word problems and using key words to determine the operations that need to be performed. We worked on two step equalities and inequalities. We worked in her book through various review sections and problems. She said she felt confident and comfortable with the material on her review list.
Today with the student I started with basic place value and continuously got harder. We rounded to the nearest ten and then went all the way up to millions. We covered a lot of fraction material (different denominators, mixed numbers, adding fractions) and then also focused on long division. These are topics that are going to be continuously covered in our sessions because they need to become second hand nature. She did extremely well and is really a pleasure to work with.
Prior to the session, the student provided several sample pages from the placement tests he hopes to pass this summer. He also has a workbook that covers most algebra II and pre-calculus material. After discussing his goals and plans, we began work on the workbook. We worked on binomial expansion for most of our session. By the end of the session, he was able to use FOIL methods to expand polynomials, as well as work with a variety of expressions similar to polynomials.
We completed the test review packet, and the student made significant improvement. She has become better at completing problems on her own using the correct strategy, and fixing minor mistakes.
We worked on borrowing with large subtraction problems. We then worked on the concept that addition is the same as subtraction, just in a different order. The student thinks addition is easy but struggles with subtraction, so hopefully this concept will help. We spent the last part working on fractions.
The student and I met for the first time today. We did a quick review of second-grade math, which she has a good grasp of, with the exception of polygons (we will focus on polygons next time). We also did a state third-grade math test; again, polygons were a trouble spot, as were division and multiplication, which she hasn't really covered yet.
