I am an ambitious and eager student entering the University of Notre Dame as a freshman this fall. I have been in marching band throughout high school and concert bands for eight years, and have a particularly strong interest in social studies. Throughout high school, I took a rigorous course load so that I could take classes in a broad range of subjects each year, comprised predominantly of honors and AP level classes. I was a part of the inaugural STEM program at my high school, and am looking to continue with engineering and history in college. I love school and am considering a career in teaching because I enjoy helping others learn and finding new ways to explain concepts.

I was fortunate to accept a placement in Papua New Guinea, where I completed my two-year contract and was head teacher before leaving. Following that experience, I became a math specialist for the non-profit educational organization, Project SEED. At Project SEED I delivered Socratic group discovery lessons and wrote and delivered professional development seminars. In this role, I worked alongside teachers and administrators to ensure that students were engaged and excited about math.When I began graduate school I took a position with Karen Dillard's College Prep. There I wrote curriculum and acted as a director for a tutoring business. Both in that position and my subsequent consulting business, I was able to teach students how to master college entrance exams. I trained new teachers and wrote and updated curriculum. During this time, I also took on adjunct work at the Art Institute of Dallas. There I taught college students remedial math and environmental science.My most recent experience was international. I have taught mathematics in both the UAE and in Sweden. I attended Cornell University for my undergraduate degree, and am currently attending Xavier University for my graduate degree in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling.I have a high interest in math, chemistry, physics and psychology. I majored in psychology at Cornell, and was on track to receive a minor in math. Cornell no longer offered a minor in math my senior year, so I wasn't able to obtain the minor.I am an upbeat and patient tutor. I like to make learning as fun as possible, and I'm constantly learning new things.

While working towards my degree at UMKC in Mechanical Engineering I have taught statistics, calculus, algebra, trigonometry, physics, and prepped for tests like the ACT with everyone from my 10 year old nephew to my classmates in school. I don't think that science and math has to be as intimidating or scary as the world makes it out to be. Often times if we don't understand something, it's simply because it hasn't been explained to us in a way that caters to our strengths. I love math and the predictive nature of numbers. If I'm not in school you can probably find me in front of the box score of a basketball or football game trying to make two completely different worlds make sense together.
