During this session we reviewed some questions from the chemical sciences section of the exam. We discussed questions on the topics of thermodynamics, phases, and solution chemistry. We reviewed the energy changes that occur during phase changes and also solved a question on the topic of thermodynamics and kinetics of reaction systems.

MCAT Tutoring review by Vipinjeet in Palos Hills, IL
We discussed two passages. The first was a first-wave feminism critique of the politics of writers identifying as "women writers." The second was a section on solubility and acyl acid/base chemistry. The student had a little difficulty uniting his excellent understanding of circuits with flow dynamics, but I showed him how to connect the two. The other mistake he was making was not to consider the actual 3-d relationship b/w solvent and solute, a particularly important and testable concept for dissolved fatty acids. In verbal, there was less intricate vocab than before, but the grammar was moderately challenging, and the use of jargon and some phrases required some explanations.

The student and I continued reviewing general chemistry topics. We also worked through a bunch of problems regarding thermochemistry. Some of the concepts were a little difficult for her, but after working through the problems, they seemed to make more sense. More practice problems on these topics would definitely be helpful, though. She is going to review the next couple of chapters before we meet next week.

MCAT Tutoring review by Phillip in Palos Hills, IL
We discussed in great detail the path from exciting a neuron, the generation and propagation of an action potential, the release of neurotransmitters from a synaptic terminal, the binding of those transmitters to the post-synaptic muscle cell, and the cross-bridge cycle of that cell. Clinical correlates were used to show the ways in which this process can go awry.

We worked through many problems from the physics books. The student exhibited difficulty in some of the problems involving dimensional analysis, projectile motion and Newton's Law. I will adjust the pace of the course and dial back the pace of physics, and I will assign biology and chemistry chapters for this week in order for her to reinforce her physics knowledge before proceeding.
