Session Summaries by MCAT Tutors

MCAT Tutoring review by Paris in Hawthorne, CA
With the student, we completed passages concerning enzyme kinetics, thermodynamics, thermochemistry, equilibria, kinetics and respiratory system. The student did have somewhat of a hard time with thermochemistry as she was confused with the specific meaning of the thermodynamic variables (H, S, and G). As we worked through these passages, she did seem to improve her knowledge of the chemistry concepts, particularly thermodynamics, and she was better able to answer the questions better toward the end of the session. The student was stronger in the kinetics and biology section. It is a pleasure to work with the student because she constantly asks questions on any concept that she does not understand whether or not it is in relation to our current session.

MCAT Tutoring review by Stephanie in Hawthorne, CA
For our last session, the student and I reviewed a practice MCAT that she completed on the AAMC website. She, overall, did a great job with the practice test and implemented a lot of the testing strategies & knowledge that we reviewed during our sessions. I helped to clarify any answer explanations that she didn't fully comprehend especially in the Physical and Biological Sciences sections. We also reviewed some additional concepts such as Km, substrate affinity, optics, and mitosis/ meiosis. It was a pleasure working with this student and I wish her the best of luck with her upcoming test!!!

We began covering material from the first-half of the course. The student has a much better grasp on this information. We did an open book review on this material, and she seems to know it well. Throughout the next week and a half, we will cover this material every way possible. We will be meeting next on Saturday.

MCAT Tutoring review by Ellen in Hawthorne, CA
The student completed two practice passages. Then, we reviewed them thoroughly. After that, he completed two flashcards, focusing on passage assumptions. We have been working on mapping out the passages, writing down the main ideas of each paragraph and each passage as a whole before answering the questions. I think this has been very useful, and he has been improving his scores when using this method. Before Thursday, I would like the student to continue reading practice passages and mapping out main ideas. He is showing improvements, and continues to demonstrate commitment and hard work. Keep it up!
