MCAT Tutoring review by Jeffrey in Geneva, IL
The pupil and I spoke about several topics including the application process for medical school, the timing of the MCAT, and other subjects dealing with medical school. Then we did practice with verbal passages, and she did an excellent job. She is getting better at applying the strategies we have discussed, and I think she will only continue to get more comfortable with the passages and questions. For homework, I assigned her a practice test.

MCAT Tutoring review by Daniel in Geneva, IL
We began our first session by discussing what review the student has done thus far. She explained that she is almost through reviewing content and plans on beginning practice tests soon. We are going to be working on the Verbal Reasoning, as English is her second language. I told her that one thing that will make a huge difference is practicing reading other sources, including the newspaper and scholarly magazine articles. Then we began by going over certain strategies when reading, including recognizing main ideas versus detail, and how to skip over extraneous unnecessary information. We discussed that she should be reading to understand the author's point of view and purpose, rather than total comprehension of every word she reads. We worked on recognizing the main point with some basic exercises then we moved on to applying these to more difficult passages. We also talked about how critical timing is and how we will work on building her reading skills so that she can cut off time from reading the passages. Overall, it seemed she left the session with a better grasp of how to read. I reminded her to practice reading newspapers and other things in English.
