I recently finished my Master's Degree in Foreign Language Education (in Mandarin) at New York University's Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development. Prior to this, I completed my undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia, majoring in Investment Finance, Corporate Finance, and Financial Accounting. I am fluent/native in Mandarin, English, and Japanese.My multilingual and multicultural background, in my considered opinion, is the little helpmate for building up my experiences above all things. Before taking graduate courses in teaching at New York University, I have gradually found my dual interests in business and education, which could've appeared to stand opposed to each other. I never overlooked my obsession of teaching languages in different areas and settings. I started tutoring several students Mandarin Chinese since high school, and until now, I've been tutoring my VP of Operation in Orbit360 Inc. academic Mandarin since the end of last year. By addressing more authentic learning materials instead of only relying on textbooks, she has enhanced her speaking and listening skills from beginner to intermediate while developing really good writing and reading proficiencies. Earlier this year, I had half-year ESL teaching experience at Discovery Learning Center in Manhattan. I was co-teaching the intermediate level adult session, focusing on enhancing students' language learning interests by giving content-based topics, such as American cultures, history, and pop music. In 2011, I had the chance to be the teacher assistant teaching Japanese at the Beginner level.

I have been working in the human services field for over 15 years as a therapist. I worked with children ranging from elementary school on through to the high school level with learning disabilities or hindered learning due to behavioral difficulties. My main areas of expertise and preferred areas of tutoring include elementary through middle school reading and math both with children who have learning disabilities and those who do not. On the college level I have been tutoring statistics for 3 years and have 10 years experience in assisting grad students with writing thesis papers and dissertations as well as guiding them on how to analyze data. I am also an intermediate user of STATA.My oldest son is a freshman and is 15 years old. He has mild autism and has many difficulties academically with reading, writing, and math. Over the past 8 years I have been tutoring him in these subject areas as well as some of his peers in the same subject areas for the past 6-7 years. In addition, I have tutored my now 22 year old stepdaughter and two of her friends on the high school level in math, writing, and reading. My stepdaughter has mild autism, dyslexia, and learning disabilities and she has shown tremendous progress over the past 3-4 years. The students I have tutored over the years have shown significant progress under my instruction and I often get requests still for new students by word of mouth of the parents of my previous students. I love teaching and enjoy seeing students get excited about what he or she is learning.My educational background includes obtaining a bachelor's degree from Penn State in human development, a master's degree in business from University of Phoenix and a master's degree in education curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix. I worked as a classroom aide on the middle and elementary school grade levels as well as special education and emotional support classrooms.On a personal note, I am a stay at home mom now to 3 amazing boys ages 15, 13, & 7 and a beautiful little girl who is 3 years old. I have a beautiful 22 year old stepdaughter who is working full time and working towards a career in healthcare. I love spending time with kids and going on educational trips. I have been married for 7 years and we have 2 spoiled fur babies. I graduated from Oberlin College in May 2020 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Neuroscience and Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies. I am on the pre-med track planning to apply next year. I have a genuine passion for helping others, whether that be in my future career as a doctor or tutoring! During my years at Oberlin, I was a general chemistry laboratory teaching assistant, as well as a tutor for Bioorganic chemistry. I was inspired to help other students from my own experiences with teaching assistants. Oberlin has a unique program for many of the hard science courses called OWLS in which teaching assistants hold small sessions for extra help or test review. Attending OWLS was one of the best decisions I made for my academic career at Oberlin. Even when I understood the material well, OWLS was a great opportunity to review with classmates, teaching assistants and to get extra practice. I have always been someone who loves studying with peers, because I find talking through the material with others is a great way to ensure you really understand everything. From my experiences, my tutoring style is typically one that is student-focused in order to pinpoint specific gaps in content knowledge or reasoning, rather than lecturing on the material. I really enjoy taking a hands-on approach, whether that be walking through diagrams, creating concept maps or writing out lists, mnemonics or practice questions. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most interested in science, writing and middle school math! I also am extremely passionate about study skills, time management and organization! While school is definitely a huge part of my life, I also enjoy working out, painting and spending time outside. I look forward to working with you!

I recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with my Master's degree in biology and Bachelor's degree in biology. I am really passionate about helping students get excited about the subjects they are learning and inculcating strong study habits at a young age. I have always enjoyed being involved in education and have extensive experience tutoring elementary school age and high school students. Science has always been one of my favorite subjects, so I would love to share my enthusiasm for the natural and physical world with students!
