Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued working on her review packet for her exam on Thursday. In addition we did some practice problems similar to the ones on the packet. The student had the most trouble with the step equations but after going over the formula she did well. I also encouraged her to check every single line of her solutions to make sure there aren't even small mistakes."
"The student and I worked on graphing inequalities on coordinate planes, graphing inequalities involving absolute value functions, solving and writing the solution in interval notation for inequalities and absolute values."
"This week, the girls are starting to learn about algebraic functions. Tonight's work consisted of a worksheet that practiced different aspects of functions, such as writing a function from a word problem, identifying reasonable domains and ranges for functions, and solving functions. The students did well tonight. Once we got going, they seemed to catch on fairly quickly, and only made one error with a negative (something that had plagued them last week)."
"The student has improved dramatically in math and he seems much more confident. I assisted him with his homework and then gave him more practice. He worked on checking it himself. He is still making some basic mistakes but his awareness of where he went wrong is more accurate. Our next area of work is to get him to be more clear with his writing which will help him in quiz and test situations."
"We went over his Algebra homework, focusing on translating word problems into equations. He was great at solving the equations once he had them, and he learned to set up the equations very quickly. We then reviewed for his upcoming English test, focusing on compound sentences."
"With the first student, we covered negative numbers, the number line, and how to add and subtract using negative numbers. I did not see any grades this time, but she is grasping the concepts very well. She did not struggle significantly with anything during the session. With the second student, we covered multiplying polynomials using the FOIL method. I did not see any scores but she is grasping the concepts very well."
"We reviewed arithmetic and basic algebra. Exponents, real numbers, rational numbers, percent, fractions, simplifying, solving. Tutorial on factoring and foiling. He is very bright and remembers a fair amount of math."
"He had a quiz recently and only got 2 wrong. We worked on his homework today and prepared him for his test coming up next Tuesday. We will be meeting on Sunday to prepare for his Test. I am sending him a study guide for his test to do over the weekend."
"The student and I reviewed the properties of exponents as well as the perfect squares/square roots. We also reviewed simplifying algebraic expressions with distributive property and like terms."
"Today was a good session with the student. We reviewed his algebra homework and once we finished that I was able to help him a bit with his physics assignment. His homework covered the distributive property, variables on both sides of an equation, and creating an equation from a word problem. The student did not seem to have much trouble with the assignment but I had to remind him to take his time and show his steps. He tends to like to do stuff in his head. I will see the student again in two weeks for our next session."
"Today we reviewed the material she learned in class last week (inequalities) as well as covered the topics that were addressed in her last two classes (graphing relationships and functions). The student had no difficulties at all with the material she learned this week, and she was able to complete her assigned work with very few questions. When we reviewed inequalities and equations, she was mostly confident with them, but struggled at times when fractions or multiple variables were involved. I intend to give her a practice sheet to work on this weekend so that she can have more experience with the areas she had struggled with. I also saw a quiz she took earlier this week, which she made a 91 on. She was able to tell me what she did wrong and what she would have had to do to get the right answer."
"The student and I worked on the rules for expressions and equations, such as the order of operations and why you have to do the same thing on each side of the equals sign. We also reviewed fractions operations. Throughout our time together, we have covered a wealth of subjects, and my plan next week is to bring him a review of everything we've done to measure his progress. He has continued to be an attentive hard worker."
