Session Summaries by Geometry Tutors

Geometry Tutoring review by Rodolfo in Libertyville, IL
In this session we covered a variety of problems from several worksheets. These were problems that the student was redoing. The problems that seemed to give the student most difficulty were those involving the ratios of the sides of triangles and bearing problems. An easy way to go about problems of sides of triangles using proportions is to become familiar with the formulas like the leg rule and the geometric mean of an altitude. I shared these with the student. As for bearing problems, drawing a sketch is key and to do so well one must understand the problem. Thus, I plan to keep on working with the student to facilitate her ability to sketch these problems, for this practicing more problems may be best.

Geometry Tutoring review by Benjamin in Libertyville, IL
Concepts covered in this session focused on volumes of spheres, cones and cylinders. The student had a good understanding of the base equations and generally what each question was asking. General equations and their relationship to units as well as their derivations were discussed to create a better understanding of the underlying principles. He is very enthusiastic about learning and is very easy to work with.

Geometry Tutoring review by Trieu in Libertyville, IL
The student and I started today's session by creating an area and perimeter formula sheet for the following shapes: triangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, rhombus (kites), squares, and rectangles. We also discussed how each formula was derived and how the Pythagorean Theorem can be used in finding area of various figures. Next, we worked together to complete the test review, which contained many figure examples and word problems. He was able to draw most of the figures and solve the problems on his own with some of my help.

Geometry Tutoring review by Jeremiah in Libertyville, IL
I assisted the student with his geometry homework in preparation for his test the next day. I went over his review sheet with him and reviewed the characteristics of parallelograms, squares, rhombuses and rectangles. We then moved on to another part of his review where he was required to analyze different shapes that looked like squares but may not have been squares depending on the indications of whether various combinations of angles and sides were congruent or parallel. Finally I quizzed him orally to ensure that he had interiorized the specific characteristics of special parallelograms.

Geometry Tutoring review by Jennifer in Libertyville, IL
Today the student and I finished going through her review packet for her upcoming test. She is doing really well with using trig functions. We reviewed simplifying square roots again today and she seemed to remember how to do that really well from last week.

Geometry Tutoring review by John in Libertyville, IL
The student had a worksheet on finding the area of regular polygons, which we completed. We also worked on additional problems from a book of mine. He said he scored a B on his last test. He said the biggest struggle was simplifying radical expressions, so we also took some time to review that process.
