I love learning. Whether it is Mathematics, Cell Biology, Ancient Egyptian Mythology, Geology, Modern Economic Theory, Contemporary American History, or whatever else has caught my fancy recently, I love knowledge. I love figuring things out, making connections and seeing patterns in different things. I hope to transfer this passion on to my students.
My philosophy is even though every student is unique in the way that their mind processes information, everyone learns best when they figure things out themselves, not when they are told what to think. So I try to focus on how to think about a subject, how to parse what is important and what isn't because if you can build a strong foundation, a firm understanding of the concepts that underlie a field of study, you will be able to organize your thoughts more elegantly and deal with new information more efficiently. In my experience, students that figure out how to do this are able to approach any subject with confidence and proficiency.
