I want to live in a world filled with inspired self-starters and self-assured young people. As a young professional, helping others own their spark is what keeps mine twinkling. Whether its as modest as modifying a rowing machine with duct tape to be disability friendly, as brave as a teenagers first authentic statement in family therapy after months of nudging, as critical as ensuring there isnt a refugee without food or shelter, or as important as teaching a teenager how to read, I am energized through equipping and empowering others. Im an action-oriented extrovert who is equal parts goal and relationship-oriented and ready to be challenged and engaged.

I love teaching/tutoring. I first fell in love with teaching when my niece and nephew were young. I would take them on walks and seek to explain to them everything around us. From the telephone lines to the birds in the sky. This love of teaching lead me to obtain my masters degree from Georgia State University. As a graduate student, I taught an introduction to college for college freshmen. Afterwards I did my teaching internship at a high school teaching world history. Upon completion of my program, I accepted a position as a Social Studies teacher at a middle school. All these experiences were very rewarding and now I want to use my knowledge and skills to help tutor students online, especially during these challenging academic times due to Covid-19.Tutoring is very rewarding. I love those "aha" moments when a student finally understands a concept with which they have been struggling. As a teacher, there is nothing to which I look forward to more!As someone with a Masters degree in teaching and an undergraduate degree in Business & History, I have learned what good writing entails. Good writing is both an art and a science. With so much practice, I have learned to master this wonderful gift and hope to help others do the same.As a certified history teacher in Georgia, I know history. I have spent the past 14+ years studying history. This includes in formal classes, studying for the state certification exam, reading books in my spare time, listening to lectures online, and the list goes on. In my spare time, I am usually watching or reading something of history. Please let me know how I can help!

In a previous life I studied electrical engineering & developed software. I hold a bachelor's degree from a liberal arts college in Baltimore and a master's degree from Clemson University. I've designed antennas, crunched Fortran, and written video games. While I was at Clemson I taught labs to undergraduates and this is where I first discovered my love of teaching.About ten years ago, life began to steer me back towards the humanities I had studied in college. I took up languages, fiction, and poetry. Latin has since become one of my favorite subjects and I am passionate about showing students why it remains so important. I seek left/right brain balance in my life and I believe many of the challenges we face today as a society will require a balanced approach. We need logic and analysis, we need technology, but we also need the humanities. A proficiency in Latin unlocks the literature of the Roman people, one of the most precious treasures our ancestors have passed down to us. I want to explore it with others.

I have been teaching and tutoring students for more than 20 years. I currently provide online as well as in person tutoring to students in the areas of phonics and reading. I am an ESL teacher for a couple of online companies in China. I work as a substitute teacher for the public school system where I live and I am also pursuing a degree in Spanish at Arizona State University. I previously taught in a small private school that I founded. The school served students in grades kindergarten through second grade and it was founded with the idea of promoting literacy through the encouragement of world language learning. I teach beginning and emergent literacy skills in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin Chinese. I have also taught in two charter schools over a period of 15 years. During that time I served as a teacher in various areas, such as Kindergarten, First Grade, PreK, and Arabic. Prior to that, I served as the lead teacher for students in grades K-8. I have done in-home tutoring, both one to one as well as small groups. I also implemented my own after-school and summer school tutoring programs in which I tutored students in grades K-6 in their homes, my home, schools that I've worked in, and rented facilities. I have also been teaching Arabic on a platform called "Outschool" for a year and a half.

I believe that as educators we are often in the position of trying to teach our students how to think critically for the first time. What a responsibility! By taking this charge seriously and conceptualizing it fully we can positively impact the quality and veracity of our students' thinking.I am invested in the intricacies of pedagogy. My experience of teaching at multiple universities such as GMU, Miami-Dade, New College of Florida, American and NYU affords me the opportunity to hone my skills as an instructor-across multiple departments.I bring a deeply entrenched belief in the development of student "idea." I see "idea" a finessed & nuanced, malleable entity that students themselves form and put to work in their thinking/ writing. This pushes them beyond the routinized 'thesis statement' and pushes them to foray into the uncharted waters of their own minds. I believe in the ability of students to learn to think critically and to actively engage in texts. I spend a great deal of time modeling and molding those skills. Students need to think deeply and critically at all times and actively engage those practices into their studies.I am a tough grader with high expectations, but I firmly believe in not "lowering the bar". I use my high standards as a driving force towards accomplishment and success. Students come to me for my expertise, but leave me realizing that they themselves are the integral voice in their own work. This transpires in an exchange that is both dialogical and balanced. We work together to cultivate beneficial critical thought. My ultimate pedagogical goal is to inspire students to become both curious and risky intellectuals who craft quality writing skillfully and employ deft critical thinking with great ease.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with Master's degree in Creative Writing with a publishing emphasis. Additionally, my Bachelor's degrees are in English and Spanish. I am a certified English teacher, and have worked extensively in education - 22 years, to be exact - helping middle school, high school, and community college students achieve their academic aspirations. I have taught all English Language Arts subjects at the high school level (literature and composition), and I am also certified to teach ESOL students, and have done so throughout my career. Perhaps my favorite topic to teach is writing, and I am a firm believer that everyone has a writing voice and style to cultivate, even if they tend to struggle in this area. I have taught in public education as well as private education venues, and have tutored one-on-one as well as small groups at the high school and college levels. I have even tutored in Spain! I would describe my teaching and tutoring style as dynamic and engaging. I work to build a strong rapport with students, and I persist in positive reinforcement techniques. I am also an extensively published writer of poetry and prose. Outside of teaching and tutoring, I love to read, listen to all types of music, watch films, travel, do volunteer work, hike, and ride my bicycle! I also love cats.
