Hi my name is Reed and I am a graduate from Carleton College with a degree in Economics. I have a passion for helping students learn and achieve their academic and personal goals. At Carleton, I played Varsity Soccer, hosted a radio show, and served as an economics prefect/TA for introductory microeconomics classes. In this role, I both held classroom sessions and tutored students individually. It was rewarding to see the results of my efforts and the impact I could have on other students. I am at an expert level in many math and economics areas. The key to my process is helping you not just 'get the answer' but also understanding the process of how to get there. Most recently, I served as a Teaching Assistant at Haverford College where I tutored college students in Calc II, Calc III (Multivariable Calculus), Discrete Dynamical Systems, and Linear Algebra. My experience also includes tutoring Hispanic students struggling in math, science, and literature at El Centro Hispano in Carrboro, NC, and working at the Mathnasium Learning Center in Chapel Hill, NC to coach K-12 students in different levels of mathematics. I have also privately tutored students to prepare for Math and Grammar SAT exams and high school mathematics. I'm most passionate about tutoring in mathematics and how it can be applied in STEM fields such as astronomy as well as machine learning and differential modeling. I prefer to tutor by ensuring an easygoing, friendly, and collaborative environment, and using a step-by-step approach for math problems. This ensures my students feel comfortable and confident at each stage of solving the problem. After walking through practice problems, they are able to see the overall strategies that are applied to other math problems.

I have a Master's of Teaching with a focus in secondary mathematics from Virginia Commonwealth University and Bachelor's degrees in Applied Mathematics and Economics from the College of William and Mary. I am currently a high school math teacher and am passionate about cultivating a love for mathematics.

I received my BA in mathematics and economics from Vanderbilt University. Upon graduating, I was employed as a high school math teacher for four years in the states of Tennessee and Florida, while also tutoring in STEM and test prep for a Nashville-based company. I love getting to see students grow in confidence in mathematics, and create relevant scenarios that get them excited about tackling challenges. I believe education is the most important tool that a person can have, and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Economics at UNC Chapel Hill. When not studying furiously myself, I enjoy spending time outside, playing sports, and reading good books.

I have worked with elementary students as a summer camp teaching assistant, teaching the basics of Mandarin Chinese, and I have hosted an SAT study group for high school students. I am most passionate about math, including (but not limited to) algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I find that visual learning seems to click with most students, but I love looking for other teaching methods to help students gain a better understanding of the material. I believe that supportive teaching and understanding are crucial to a student's education, and I will try my best to provide the support they need to meet their personal goals.

I was the captain of the Peer Tutoring Lab at my high school from 10th to 12th grade, so I have experience tutoring students from elementary to high school level. Because I understand the importance of fully grasping material and believe that students all approach content differently, I am a patient teacher willing to explain the same concept in different ways multiple times. I strive to create a warm, caring learning experience in my sessions because every student deserves a positive academic support system.
