Newmarket PMP Tutoring FAQ
PMP (or Project Management Professional) certification has numerous requirements, including passing the PMP examination. However, many candidates struggle with the exam because its questions are based on the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), not practical project management experience. If you need assistance preparing for the PMP exam, Varsity Tutors can help you locate a qualified tutor to help you reach for your goals.
The PMP exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions that you have a total of four hours to complete. 13 percent of the questions deal with initiating a project, including identifying any complicating factors that may impact it. 24 percent deal with planning a project, including creating a cost management plan to define a clear budget. Execution is the largest section of the test, accounting for 31 percent of questions. Sample topics include making sure that all work is compliant with pertinent quality controls and sourcing the raw materials needed for project completion. Monitoring and controlling account for 25 percent of the questions and include monitoring the ever-changing risk landscape. Finally, the closing section encompasses seven percent of the questions and covers creating records for any audits in the future (among other topics).
Review courses and how-to books are available to help candidates with the PMP, but they are all limited to a defined curriculum that fails to take an individual's needs into consideration. A private PMP tutor offers the flexibility to focus on whatever you need help with. If you're an auditory learner, your tutor can design study sessions with sound as an integral component to help you retain the information. Alternatively, a visual learner may benefit more from charts displaying the information they need to memorize. Any questions you have can also be addressed before you feel lost.
Each question on the PMP exam has four possible responses, one or two of which may often be eliminated as obviously incorrect immediately. An experienced tutor can help you learn what to look for when eliminating incorrect responses, potentially making your educated guesses more likely to be correct. This could provide a boost of confidence when you need it most on exam day. Your tutor can also provide practice tests to give you a realistic sense of how long you have to finish all 200 questions.
Another tricky part of the PMP exam is that the questions generally ask what you should do in a given situation, while the PMBOK only discusses how you should approach each phase of a project. This means that you need to interpret the PMBOK correctly to do well on the PMP exam. Your tutor can provide supplemental study content with the "correct" interpretations, taking the guesswork out of the equation.
