I believe that every student is capable of obtaining knowledge in any given field. Everyone has a class or field that they naturally struggle in (mine is art), but enough time for extra thought and effort will make your goals in the class achievable. I enjoy helping provide that effort and achievement. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor's of Science in Actuarial Science & Economics in April/2014, and graduated from DePaul University with a Master's of Science in Applied Mathematics. I currently work for the Bureau of Labor Statistics as an Economist.I always liked using numbers to quantify and interpret certain problems; strange to some I know.I will be glad to tutor anyone in courses that require math and/or economic reasoning. Asking why and how a problem is done instead of just asking for the answer is what I'm looking for in a student. I can be of assistance for the whole semester or just for a test coming up for the class. As long as we are scheduling time to ask why and how to approach the problems, I am on board.

Some subjects/topics can be difficult, but sometimes looking at the problem in a different way makes the material clearer and easier. My basic learning and teaching philosophy has always been that the best way to handle difficult material is to take your head off the page and to try to reframe the question in a different way. Coming to a problem - whether it be an essay, a math question, or a writing exercise - with a different frame of mind can help make learning fun and rewarding. I have over five years experience tutoring both groups and individuals and have taught all ages (my youngest student was 5 years old and my oldest student was 71!). I think it's important that both the student and the tutor feel comfortable and ready to learn - the best way to learn is with an open mind.

I have a BS in Biotechnology with minors in Mathematics and Psychology, graduating with a 3.90 GPA. I am currently a PhD student studying Microbiology and Immunology at George Washington University.I have been a tutor since middle school. Throughout middle and high school as well as college, I have tutored in all levels of science and math classes. I have also taken AP art classes in drawing and photography. In college, I have tutored, general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry I, organic chemistry II, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, and biochemistry. I also have minors in mathematics and psychology. I have more experience tutoring math than anything- from geometry and trig to AP calculus and statistics. I also have college level experience with mathematical proofs, linear algebra, and statistical methods in research. I scored well on both the ACT and SAT math sections and would love to tutor these. I love to learn and to share my experiences with others!

During my time at The College of New Jersey, I have tutored many students in a variety of mathematical subjects and discovered a keen interest in it. I was there for two years and now have moved to Lehigh University where I will complete a MA in Mathematics in May. During my time here, I have been a teaching assistant for the various levels of calculus offered by the university and have had the opportunity of teaching students of all levels. Thus, it is obvious that my favorite subject to tutor is, in fact, calculus, but I am quite experienced in all other areas of mathematics as well. Since mathematics is such a conceptual subject, I find that by understanding misconceptions and errata, one might gain a better appreciation for the subject. Under this philosophy, I wish students to understand their errors fully, rather than simply being corrected when mistakes are made. Beyond the classroom, I enjoy playing table tennis, video games, and reading.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 2014, with a minor in Mathematics. After attaining my undergraduate degree, I went to the University of Iowa to pursue a PhD in Applied Mathematics, which I earned in 2020. Since August 2020, I have been a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Dayton. I enjoy nothing more than working with students at all levels of math. I am especially passionate about presenting a new perspective on algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and linear algebra. In my experience, students have always appreciated my patience and flexibility when approaching challenging topics. I also follow sports closely, and in my spare time I enjoy running, watching movies, and playing games with friends.

In my own experience, I've found success in mathematical sciences requires a combination of repetition, revision, and recall, but I am flexible and adaptive to different learning styles. I welcome students and/or parents to set their own goals/expectations, and I tailor the curriculum to suit those goals.I earned a PhD in statistics at The University of Iowa. I also served as Supervisory Teaching Assistant for a business statistics course, received Honorable Mention for Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award based on supervisor nominations, and a "Thank a Teacher" award by nomination from a former student. In my teaching evaluations, which I can provide upon request, students describe my style as "supportive" and "always willing to help."
