The student and I met per our weekly schedule to review ACT Math. I was informed of the student's recent ACT results and we therefore decided to focus primarily on Algebra type questions. After walking the student through a "100 ACT Math Concepts" sheet, we utilized the review book to work problems.

First, I looked over the essay that the student wrote since our session yesterday. She wrote it very well, so there wasn't much for me to add. This was the last section of this practice test, and her final score on this practice test was a 34-35. We continued to practice for the writing section by looking at prompts and discussing arguments and specific evidence to use. Then, she did several science passages, including one difficult one. She only missed a few questions on these. We finished up with math practice, which she did well on. For next time, I asked her to complete a full practice test.

Today I went over Science content and test taking strategies with the student. We covered how to read graphs and tables, how to tackle experimental questions, and how to read the science viewpoints passage. I had the student practice how to mark up her test and how to passage map the Science section effectively. She is highly proficient at reading. I left her with a Science and a Reading passage to practice answering questions more confidently.

Continued with "The Death of Ivan Ilyich." The student seems to be responding very well. I have been asking her to identify the meanings of very sophisticated vocabulary words from context, and she is able to do so fairly frequently. I really think that she is understanding the material at a significant level.

Took a global overview of the test: reviewed Critical Reading strategies from last time, talked about how to approach math problems one is unsure about, worked on essay writing. She has a good idea of how to structure the essay.

If you have been looking for top-notch ISAT tutoring, Varsity Tutors is here to help by connecting you with the best ISAT instructors available. The ISAT, also known as the International Student Admissions Test, is an exam created to assess international students applying to classes in dentistry, medicine, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy. It is accepted at a number of universities and colleges. If you are an international student hoping to take a course in one of these areas or any other course which may require you to take the ISAT, working with private ISAT tutors can be an excellent resource during your study sessions.

When you work with a private ISAT instructor, you can receive in-depth assistance about what material is covered on the exam. When you work with a private teacher, you have the opportunity to study in a low-pressure environment without distractions. This type of environment allows you the chance to ask questions without having anxiety or worrying about what your peers think. Students working with private instructors are more likely to feel comfortable and take risks that may not be possible in a classroom setting. Your instructor can work with you on the various topics or skills you are having a hard time understanding and help ensure you don't miss any crucial information which needs to be reviewed.

What material or skills can be covered by a private ISAT tutor?

The types of questions you will encounter on the ISAT may be unfamiliar to you. The ISAT design may contain questions which are different than any type you have previously encountered. The wording may also be different than you are used to seeing on exams. Your first time taking the ISAT can be confusing.

The ISAT is a three-hour multiple choice exam. This is a stimulus-exam so you will not need to review any subject-specific material. This means you will be provided with passages, images, or other sources of information and will need to use the source to answer questions. The ISAT assesses you on two main skills: Critical Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning.

When studying Critical Reasoning, you'll want to practice understanding, analyzing, and evaluating ideas presented to you. You'll also want to be able to expand these ideas. Much of the information provided will contain material from the social sciences and humanities.

For your Quantitative Reasoning studies, you'll need to review the ability to draw conclusions based on data. You'll need to showcase your ability to make sound decisions and solve problems of a quantitative nature. The material in this section will come from mathematics and different sciences.

Studying with an instructor who is an expert on the skills found on the ISAT can assist you in preparing for the exam.

Your private instructor can also assist you with more general skills, like test-taking strategies. Many students struggle with the test-taking process. Stress can cause students to perform poorly on exams even when they know the material. Your instructor can help you work on time management skills to help with your pacing as well as different methods for reducing anxiety during your exam. When you study the right material, improve your pacing with practice exams, and learn how to calm yourself down during moments of anxiety, you'll be able to walk into your exam and have confidence knowing you did everything you could to prepare adequately. An excellent private ISAT tutor can help you with all these things.

How is private ISAT tutoring different than traditional educational environments?

There are many benefits to be gained from private instruction. Many of these benefits stem from the opportunity to engage in personalized, one-on-one study sessions. Your instructor can get to know your particular academic strengths, your preferred learning style, and the areas you most need help improving. This knowledge can help your teacher create lesson plans that are designed specifically with your needs in mind. For example, if your teacher determines you are a visual learner, he or she can make sure to use videos or infographics as a means to help you visualize the information in a new way. If you turn out to be an auditory learner, your teacher can utilize a lecture style for lessons or supplement using various podcasts or recordings. In a typical classroom, teachers must use the teaching method that works best for the majority of students in the class, which can put some students at a disadvantage.

Your ISAT coach can also assist you in determining how long you need to work on a particular skill or content in order to fully master it. Working privately with a teacher who only has your instructional needs in mind means you can work at your own pace. You can spend as much time as needed to master a skill or skip over certain topics completely if you feel you don't need to review it. This makes your study sessions more productive.

With personal ISAT instruction, you'll have the opportunity to take practice exams with your instructor as a means of helping you prepare for the exam. The more practice you get working through the questions and format of your practice exams, the better your chances of feeling confident on test day and doing well. Your ISAT coach will be able to assist you with these tests and provide feedback about ways you can work to improve your score. This kind of individual attention can be difficult to find in a traditional learning environment.

Your private instructor has the ability and time to focus on you in a way you won't find in other educational settings. He or she can take the time to evaluate your specific skills and knowledge to plan study sessions to work on the areas you are struggling with. No matter what subject your ISAT concentrates on, this will ensure you review the right material to put your best foot forward. Your sessions will not only help you study for the ISAT but assist you in learning and implementing better study habits. Many students have a hard time creating a schedule that allows for the proper amount of time to study all the right material. This can lead to cramming sessions the night before an exam. If this sounds like something you have a tendency to do, it's likely you already know this isn't the most effective method of preparing for a test. Your instructor can help you learn how to break down large amounts of information into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces are more manageable and can be studied over a longer period of time, which can keep you from becoming overwhelmed.

Another benefit of private instruction is the ability to dive deeper into a topic than is typically possible in the classroom. Your teacher can help by encouraging you to think more deeply about the topic you're reviewing. This can help you learn the skill of looking at material from a different perspective. This can help you not only prepare for the ISAT but will be useful for you in all your future studies.

Working with personal ISAT tutors can be very convenient for your busy schedule. When you choose Varsity Tutors to assist you in finding your ISAT tutor, you'll have the option of accessing your sessions online or meeting with your instructor in person. If you elect to meet with an instructor online, you'll access your sessions using our Live Learning Platform. This brings private education to your favorite place to study, as long as you have access to a computer and high-speed internet. When you choose to participate in online ISAT tutoring sessions, this also gives you access to a wider range of instructors since you are limited to meeting with teachers in your area. We also strive to make in-person study sessions convenient as well. We will do our best to connect you with a teacher who can work within your established schedule. You'll be able to choose the location of your study sessions, allowing you to meet at your favorite coffee shop, the local public library, or the comfort of your own home. No matter where you are in your ISAT review process, we are here to assist you in reaching for your goals.
