The best writing is accomplished by rewriting, and the best rewriting occurs only when a work is critiqued by a calm and unbiased eye. An experienced IB Extended Essay tutor can provide you with critical assistance, both helping you to identify the weaknesses in your argumentation as well as providing you with guidance on how best to ameliorate these weaknesses and make your self-expression as effective and clear as possible. Without such help, you may overlook many issues in your writing, leading you to craft a work that does not meet the standards to which you are capable of writing. Time and effort are necessary for writing the best Extended Essay you can, and your tutor can help you effectively apply your skills.
Likewise, though you certainly are an advanced student at this point in your educational career, the details of research are likely still relatively new to you. A knowledgeable writing tutor can teach you how to find the best background information, help you carefully consider your sources, and craft a tight argument that considers the key points of research literature relevant to your investigation. Likewise, he or she can challenge you to find the most authoritative and applicable sources, helping to lend gravitas to your argument. The sources of your information are incredibly important. The right sources can lead to a grounded, precise essay, while weak, inaccurate sources can discredit your entire piece. With the trove of accessible information that exists today in books, magazines, newspapers, and online, it can be difficult, and oftentimes overwhelming, to locate sources that are both factual and reputable. Writing tutors have extensive experience sifting through pools of information and selecting the right sources. They have strategies and tips on how to make the process easier, and they are eager to share those tips with you. This exercise is meant to show the IB examiners that you are thinking through a topic on your own and in-depth, synthesizing a mass of material into a real whole - not just a mere heap of facts. You will be developing your own particular insight and argument that needs to shine forth in your research and prose. A personal tutor can help you develop this insight to its fullest, allowing your genius to shine through at the time of the examination. With such advantages, you should not hesitate for a moment to find a personal tutor to help you prepare your extended essay.

Recent IB Extended Essay Tutoring Session Notes
The student has several summer assignments to complete. On the 17th, I helped her primarily with planning and pre-writing for a history-focused Internal Assessment. We talked about historical contexts, brainstormed ideas, explored resources, and drafted a rough outline.
This session, the student and I started with his 12th grade English class. It requires a bit more reading and grammar knowledge than the other English class, but we are still doing well on the quizzes and exams. We will continue with this next session.
We spent most of this session going over helping verbs and main verbs. I started by teaching them that the main verb tells the action that happens, while the helping verb tells when the action happens. We completed three pages of their grammar workbook on this topic together, during which I expanded on the questions that the workbook asked of them. We finished by reading a passage from the reading comprehension workbook aloud and completing the exercise at the end.
The student and I worked on her take home packet for her English class. She is starting a new school and this packet is her summer work for the new English program. We worked on vocabulary from the reading as well as basic literary terms: point of view, story development, etc. We also discussed interpretive aspects of the story by asking deeper questions such as why and how? She did well and seemed to become more comfortable as the session went on. She was to work on some parts of the packet before the next session. Areas to improve upon are: vocabulary and interpretive analysis.
The student and I discussed thematic elements of "Lord of the Flies" and used a graphic organizer to discuss "themes in tension". I left him with an essay question that covered our thematic discussions that we'll review on our next visit.
Today, the student and I focused on a personal narrative he is revising. We went over motifs and some basic writing skills to improve his paper. We then moved to some American history where we focused on Virginia's Statute for Religious Freedom, and answered some critical thinking questions. Last, we finished up some math and science review with our extra time. He is definitely a strong student and is doing a great job getting his work done.
