Teaching has always been a part of my life. One could even say it's part of the family business. Both my parents, a brother and several aunts and uncles are all in the education field -- so it certainly runs in the family.I have always valued education -- not only for how important one can be from a professional standpoint, but from a personal one as well. There are few things more satisfying than seeing a student's eyes light up when they get that 'Eureka!' moment of understanding the subject material.My primary prior education experience was working at an inner-city charter school in Cleveland, Ohio. For two years I served as a one-on-one aide for an elementary-age student with high-functioning autism. His unique abilities and the way he perceived the world required me to become very creative in my teaching methods.I can say with pride that with a lot of work and dedication from both the student and myself that he never fell behind in his classwork. Indeed he became actively engaged in the learning process. (Telling him to give the other students a chance to answer the question was a good problem to have!)While at the charter school, which was K-8, I also had ample opportunity to substitute teach every grade level, covering pretty much every subject in the Common Core curriculum. Substituting also allowed me to expand upon subjects once the material left by the teacher was completed, allowing students the opportunity to ask questions about topics and subjects that interested them.I really think if one shows a passion for learning, that passion can be passed on to a student. I know from personal experience that learning is much easier if the subject is something that one finds interesting. The trick, of course, is to make any subject or assignment interesting to the student -- and that's something I feel very strongly that I bring to the table.While my primary experience is grades K-8, I also have a high level of competence in the social sciences, as well as English/composition for high school and even college courses.

Hi there, my name is Max! I've spend the majority of my life in the central Minnesota area. I attended high school in Elk River, MN and am currently student teaching through St. Cloud State University. I expect to receive a BS in 5th-12th Grade General Science/Chemistry Education this spring.I've spent my time at St. Cloud State studying various subjects with a focus on math, chemistry, biology and other sciences. As a Division I Collegiate Softball Player at an Ivy League university (University of Pennsylvania), I've learned more than ever the value of working hard, making a plan, but most of all working together. As a tutor, I want to help students maximize their potential to the fullest, but I also want to learn from them as well. Academics can be a tricky area to navigate, and with a little bit of help I think people will be shocked at what they can accomplish!I am a Communications Major with a penchant for reading, writing, some math, and film! (I picked up a Cinema Studies Minor as well) I used to be an editor in a few newspapers, so I love working with others to improve their writing skills. I have tutored many areas in both high school and college and have coached softball to girls of many ages. I especially love helping students master their test-taking skills, because I understand what it was like having to navigate such a high pressure environment! Providing just a few tools can make a world of difference.

I am an experienced teacher who taught at a private Christian school for 25 years. I tutored students during the school year and the summer. I love working with children. It is exciting to me when a child gets something he/she did not understand before. I have a Masters Degree in Adult Education from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, and a Bachelors Degree from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL. My experience in tutoring spans from Elementary school to college/adult students. I was also hired as an English-Speaking Teacher by the Korean government (SOME) in Seoul, S. Korea. I have had the privilege of meeting students from every walk of life and I am forever grateful for that. Yet, my expertise in tutoring is NOT limited to my education and teaching experience. I have learned also from my experiences during my early high school years. I didnt take education seriously and thus I didnt think I could learn. However, as I progressed up the Education ladder and attained my Masters Degree, I made a promise to myself and to those I have taught and will teach, that I will teach with an understanding and compassion for the learner who can learn, but who may not have the confidence. Since graduation, I have worked as a 7th grade Reading Language Arts teacher in Dallas Texas at a newly formed public all boys school. This has provided me with great experience and insight into how students best learn and how to create culturally responsive lessons that students will engage with. I am most passionate about English, Literature, History, and Spanish. In my experience, working to prepare students for state standardized tests has had the additional benefit of helping students to discover what they enjoy reading about. This increase in intrinsic motivation to read has had an important impact on struggling students. I am dedicated towards ensuring that students are provided with an education that increases their quality of life.In my spare time I enjoy reading short fiction, photography, skiing, coaching weightlifting, and traveling with my family.
