I am very dedicated to helping students excel in school and in helping them develop study methods and styles that work best for them and that will serve them throughout school. I previously tutored with Boys Hope Girls Hope in Evanston, IL. I tutored middle and high school students in Spanish and English, and I was able to help them develop study strategies such as using flashcards or translating a sentence they had spoken aloud that day in their heads for extra language practice. I am very excited to be able to tutor again and to work with students. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a previously struggling student excel and to have helped them improve along the way.

I am currently a PhD candidate at Northwestern University, studying microbiology and public health (my two biggest passions). I received my Bachelor of Science with high honors from Emory University in 2011, where I double-majored in Biology and Spanish. During my time at Emory, I studied abroad in Australia working on barrier reef and rainforest ecology, and studied in Spain mastering my Spanish language skills. I can read and write Spanish with high proficiency and have tutored Spanish speakers, and received highest scores on the AP Spanish exam with listening. My favorite academic subjects are math and science, and I have received perfect scores on a variety of standardized math exams, including SAT I math, SAT II math IIC subject test, BC calculus AP exam, and the GRE quantitative exam. In addition to tutoring mathematics at all levels, I enjoy tutoring grammar and mechanics, and editing essays. I received the Carlos C. Rojas Excellence in Writing Award from Emory University, and have served on the editorial board for Emory University's undergraduate research journal, as well as have authored peer-reviewed manuscripts at Northwestern University. I have lectured to undergraduate students at Northwestern University in cell biology, and have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in both a classroom setting and one-on-one. I am especially passionate about high school/upper level math subjects such as Algebra 1, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, etc... because they allow students to dive deeper into a single subject opposed to lower level math classes where you get a little taste of everything without really going below the surface level of the content. With that being said, all of my teaching experience has been on the middle school level, so we get down to the good stuff anyway! Algebra 1 has a special place in my heart since I just got done teaching my very first 8th grade class in that subject where they ROCKED the end of year test (very proud teacher moment :). I am currently a high school teacher in St. Louis Missouri Public Schools where I plan to bring my vibrant southern Louisiana energy to my students while growing them not only as students, but into the version of themselves that they would like to be by instilling in them a hard work ethic and "don't give up" attitude. I have been working as a flight attendant for United Airlines since June of 2015 and am planning to do this for the foreseeable future. That being said, I really miss teaching and am looking for way to immerse myself back into the education field part-time.

I have over 120 hours of training and I am going to become officially TEFL certified at the end of December 2020. I am very passionate about helping people learn new languages and giving students an important cultural capital that will improve their lives. Today, I volunteer as an online tutor, teaching English to recent Canadian Immigrants through Nevy's Language. In my spare time, I love to read, jog, play the piano, watch movies (especially in Spanish), painting, and above all traveling!
