I am a motivated graduate student attending the UCLA School of Dentistry. I am originally from Oklahoma City and stay here during summer and winter vacations. I have vast experience in tutoring many science and math subjects to students of all age groups. I have not only tutored at other agencies, but also at my college. I am also proficient at tutoring standardized tests (such as ACT/DAT) and can provide in-depth insight about how to navigate concepts taught in the classroom setting so that you increase your scores and get better grades!I love tutoring because I love helping students better their grades/scores and seeing them move one step closer to their ultimate career goals. For me, tutoring is not only about teaching a certain subject. It is also about making sure that you have understood the core concepts related to that subject so you can apply these over and over again. I hope I get to work with you/you child and help them come one step closer to achieving their goals as well! After receiving good grades in upper division mathematics courses required for my bachelors degree, I decided to put it to use by tutoring at a center where I not only solidified concepts but learned the areas that students have a difficulty in.I love all science topics including a vast number of college-level sciences. Not only have I received 99th percentile in ACT and DAT science sections, but I have also graduated in a science field with a Magna cum Laude honors. These qualifications reflect my passion for science and I hope to transfer some of the techniques I have learned along the way to you!I encourage you to contact me to learn more and schedule lessons. I am very flexible during the summer and suggest it to anyone who is looking to master a subject!

Hello! My name is Rich. As a teacher and military officer, I have experience working with a wide variety of age groups, skill levels, and motivation levels. I pride myself on finding the right approach that best suits a particular student. After completing a bachelor of arts in political science at Yale University, I served 8 years as a combat arms officer in the US Army. I coached, trained and mentored soldiers and junior officers in a wide variety of tasks. After leaving the military, I completed graduate coursework for a master's degree in international affairs at Tufts University. Finally, I recently finished all academic requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from University of Maryland.I am a current substitute teacher in the DC public school system, with experience at the elementary, middle school and high school level. In addition to general education and small group intervention, I have performed multiple, long-term special education assignments working one on one with students.Having returned to school to receive a second bachelor's, I am also aware of the challenges and constraints faced by adult learners. I look forward to working with any student who seeks to improve.

I would like to apply for the position of English tutor - with you! I am a mom, English and Reading public school teacher, coach, and certified administrator. I have three children in college: one at N.A.U. studying Accounting, one at G.C.U. on a Nursing scholarship; while the youngest is just deciding on his major, it's looking like it will be Medicine. I have two Bachelor's degrees from A.S.U. in Art History and Business Administration. My Master's degrees are in Education from both N.A.U. and A.S.U. However, I enjoy writing and that joy extends to the reading of other's written pieces. When I'm not reading or writing, I ride horses or ATV's, run with the Doberman, go hiking with my husband, or go skiing with the entire family. We stay active around here. Visiting museums and art galleries has always been a favorite pastime of mine, as well. I just got back from a trip to see the art galleries and mineral collections at the state park in Jerome, Arizona. What was the last museum that you visited?

I am a graduate from Sarah Lawrence College, class of 2014, studying literature, theatre and psychology. Fun fact: I love dogs, good New York Theatre, ramen noodles, and Jane Austin Novels. I ended up here at Varsity tutors, because I am passionate about teaching. It is something that I also plan to go to grad school for to teach either at a high school or collegiate level. It is something that I have slowly discovered throughout my college career. I have had the great pleasure of teaching 4 summers in a row at an art program in Westchester in creative writing and theatre. Later I went on to tutor in the more academic realms during college, however I still found creativity to be an essential part of reasoning. The art of teaching is a collaborative process. It is a dialogue between both the teacher and the student--a mutual process of learning. While in school, I taught a few middle school aged student with my skills in writing, essay, literature and language arts. Those wonderful students taught me how tutoring is more like being a guide than it is posing as the answers at the back of a text book. I want each student to find their own voice, which is why I believe communication is the essential tool in the learning process in order to create cogent and organized arguments. It is a way to discover, to test ideas, and even to have fun in the process.

I am a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I'm studying Economics and Computer Science, and in my free time I love playing piano, baking lemon bars, and drawing. The main subjects I tutor in are Mathematics and Science, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Biology. I also have experience working with students on test prep, especially for the SAT Reading and Writing sections. My tutoring style is about using intuitive approaches for students of all ages to try and explain concepts in ways that are already familiar. Often, I find that students are scared of subjects like mathematics because the concepts can seem so far removed from our day to day lives. I hope to bridge that gap. I also believe in the importance of practice, practice, practice, and in the case of standardized testing, nothing is as powerful as practice problems.I am available for online tutoring most weeknights and weekend mornings, and am flexible with scheduling. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, and I hope to work with you soon!

Hi! I am a current undergraduate studying both neuroscience and history! I have a passion for teaching and my biggest goal for my students is to walk away feeling confident about the subject material covered in the session. I aim to create an environment that fosters trust and comfort so students are never afraid to ask questions or tell me that they're completely lost and need me to reexplain. I also make really nerdy puns and provide funny stories to help create connections with subject material and make for a fun session!

I've been tutoring since 2006, with a particular focus on helping students who suffer from severe math anxiety and/or attention difficulties. I love helping those students who don't see themselves as capable of understanding science and mathematics discover that excellence is possible for them.*After almost ten years of professional tutoring and freelance writing without a college degree, I graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree from St. John's College. At St. John's, there is only one degree. You earn it by completing an all-required curriculum that integrates a study of philosophy, literature, language, history, theology, political science, music, four years of required mathematics, and three years of required laboratory science. All subjects, including electrodynamics, quantum theory, and non-euclidean geometry, are approached through the intensive reading and analysis of original, field-changing texts.*I wanted to share an excerpt from a satisfied client's letter of recommendation:6-12-2011To whom it may concern:I'm quite certain that your school receives countless glowing letters of recommendation for each applicant, so my hope in writing this letter is that my exuberance concerning Day H. is received as noteworthy and meaningfulnot just the emotional gushing of a Day H. fan!I have a difficult to motivate child that has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. He has always been very bright, but very difficult to motivate.***Day has worked miracles with him. She has planned out curricula for him, and over time helped him to become extremely engaged in his work and interested in growing. She was able to work through the roadblocks that educationally have held him back from high achievement. Specialists and teachers through his school were unable to do the same. Day has a gift.***Day is extremely good at taking the initiative to map out a course of action. . . She has done this for my child. She is one of the most well-read individuals I have ever encountered in my lifetime. While she herself shows great academic promise, she is also willing to recognize that there are those that have gone before her on which she can build her ideas. In this way, she is respectful, and not the unmanageable, egocentric academic we find often in scientific circles.Furthermore, the discussions we have enjoyed together have always been substantial and engaging. They have also been peppered with new insights for both of us. We often have differed in opinion as well. In many an academic discussion when differences in opinion arise, reasonable interaction often turns into hot and inflammatory debate. Day has shown the ability to touch on hot-button topics with grace and professionalism, maintaining her reason and respectfulness all the way. Even though we have left the discussion "agreeing to disagree" we have done so on very amicable terms. In today's world of such differing opinions, the ability to look at a topic and see both sides of an argumentand maintain decorum in the discussionis a rare and useful gift.It has been very enlightening and engaging to see her take new paths in her life. She has always wanted to make great change for the good in society, and to give hope to those that have been presented with less opportunity in life. Constantly she is looking for opportunities to give back, or to contribute in a meaningful fashion. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.(Name withheld for privacy, available with contact info by individual request)
