Based on my experience as a student and as an instructor, teaching is an ever-evolving process where one is always looking for ways to improve yet also finding new challenges as research, teaching technology and classroom dynamics, and one’s own perceptions of what is an effective class, change and develop. I also find that I learn a lot from my students, and this sharing of opinions and experiences enriches the class content and keeps me from repeating the same patterns and routines. My goal in teaching is to not only stay in tune with new research, but also maintain and appreciation and an open eye for the process of teaching as a unique and dynamic event.

I have a few years of experience in teaching general biology and chemistry, organic chemistry, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, and mathematics from students in elementary school-graduate level. I have an academic background in Resource Economics as well as Finance, and I have been able to use my degree working internationally for multiple development and poverty reduction NGOs.In school I worked as a tutor for my peers and afterwards, I coached youth sports in my community.

I am a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Since graduation, I have taken time to further my relations with people as well as further my understanding of languages. Recently finished my study of learning the Koine Greek Language and am currently studying French. Through tutoring, I hope to one day soon get my substitute teacher license to begin teaching in the Milwaukee school district and help further their advancement in STEM programs. I namely tutor in the mathematics and engineering fields as these are where my passions lie. I firmly believe that having a strong foundation in these subjects will allow for a higher quality of life and I hope to impart the love and appreciation of education upon all my students.

I graduated from the University of Southern California in May of 2014 with a B.A. in Biology and a B.S. in Health Promotion. Since graduation, I have been applying to medical schools with the intention of becoming a student starting Fall of 2015. Over the last four years, I have worked in educational programs for middle school kids and have privately tutored students at USC in Introductory Biology. I can tutor math and science subjects of all levels for students from 4th-12th grade as well as the SAT. Biology and History are my favorite and strongest subjects as I enjoy the memorizing and understanding of large amounts of information. I enjoy helping students find a solid, consistent method of learning material through the repetition of problems approached in different ways to gain a better understanding of topics. The promotion of preventive health is my passion and I love to integrate my love for health and science in my teaching. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, running, reading books and watching movies.

I have worked as a tutor and mentor for college athletes, dance instructor, reading tutor, camp counselor, high school teacher (English and History), and now, curriculum director. I enjoy helping kids who struggle so that they can find success in their education and learn to love learning. I have excellent reading and writing skills, and I am adept at helping students make connections to literature and express themselves through writing. My approach is to discover students' strengths and weaknesses and to use those strengths to improve their skills and confidence.

My tutoring career formally began six years ago--since then, I have been gradually developing my own personalized collection of tips and tools for effective learning in a large range of disciplines.My journey began in high school as a tutor for a handful of middle school students struggling with mathematics. The private sessions instilled within me an appreciation for the power of conceptual connections. I found that each individual student's network of knowledge was vastly different, and so the connections they drew in order to arrive at solutions differed as well. It became my goal and pleasure to guide these students along their own intellectual pathways towards a better understanding.During my undergraduate career at the University of Texas at Dallas, I continued to fortify this skill. Employed by the on-campus Student Success Center as both a Peer Tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader, I led sessions for advanced engineering mathematics, statics and dynamics, mechanics of materials, physics, and calculus. Through these programs, I was introduced to new methods for helping students attain their own understanding of course materials with only minimal guidance from myself. These methods relied upon the fact that, oftentimes, students already possess the foundational knowledge to arrive at correct conclusions--they simply lack the confidence and/or the roadmaps to get there. That's where I come in.After finishing my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering last May, I moved back to the Raleigh-Durham area to continue my education at Duke University for an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. As aforementioned, much of my tutoring experience has been in STEM fields (calculus, physics, chemistry, etc.)--but as a student who has prepared for, agonized over, and ultimately suffered through the SAT and GRE standardized tests, I would love to be able to impart my own knowledge and strategies for these as well.If it's nice out and I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.

I am a chemist and chemical engineer with over 20 years of experience in project engineering and project management. I also taught 11th grade math in Nigeria West Africa at G.S.S. Kogoro secondary school in 1982/1983. I tutored my younger sisters and inspired them with my love for mathematics and science and one became a chemical engineer and the other a PhD Pharmacist. I now tutor my son, who is a member of Duke's TIP program, and scored 19 on his ACT last year in the 7th grade. He has a love for math and science.Math is magic. Lets get started!
