Just spent the past hour and a half studying micro-economics with my tutor Patrick for my final in a couple hours. He showed great knowledge of the subject and saved my countless hours from trying to find the formulas and correct explanations for my troubling problems and confusions.

Fen made all the difference. My son who was panic stricken in preparing for an extremely difficult economics final was able to pass the course and graduate from NYU. Fen was not only incrdeiblly knowledgeable but was also an amazing tutor. Patient and able to find ways to help Ben commit the vast amount of information to memory. Varsity was wonderful in every way and we appreciate having had them to turn to.

Session Summaries by Economics Tutors

Economics Tutoring review by Cortland in Salt Lake City, UT
Today we continued with chapter 18 of the textbook and the discussion about world trade. Today's content focused primarily on restrictions on world trade, which include tariffs, quotas, and embargoes. After describing the various trade restrictions, we discussed the arguments for and against them. The student did well with understanding the concept of trade restrictions and the ways they may impact a country's imports. What he struggled more with was understanding the arguments of those who support free trade and those who are against it. I suggested some websites where he could learn more about the topic.

Economics Tutoring review by Elnora in Salt Lake City, UT
The student had forwarded several files, including two PowerPoint presentations that included content on additional time value of money problems and stock valuation. I reviewed these materials, and then we worked through a series of questions and problems that primarily focused on the stock valuation concepts. Coverage included (but was not limited to) the application of the "one period model" (and the dividend growth model D1/r-g), the determination of the dividend and capital gains yield (and how this also equates to the cost of equity), the "finite" vs. "infinite" models, future earnings valuation, market capitalization value, enterprise and stock value, and market efficiency.

The student and I spent most of our session going over a section practice quiz for her online Economics class. We went over each question, and I explained the concepts applied. A lot of the material focused on banking and investment. We learned how to calculate a bank's reserve ratio, why required reserves are useful, and how the government can reduce the quantity of currency in the economy using the federal funds rate.
