My M.A. is in English Literature from DePaul University. Through DePaul's Urban Teacher's Corps, I tutored extensively in CPS high schools and grammar schools from 2002 through 2003. From 2003 to 2006, I taught English and Communication (public speaking) at Robert Morris College. I also taught Humanities and Creative Writing.Presently, I freelance in publishing with a few major academic publishers. Mostly I index, proofread, and copy edit manuscripts. For my B.A., I double majored in English Literature and Philosophy at Miami University (1996). There I tutored extensively for two years, gaining the maximum clients possible (30 students a week) while still holding down full-time coursework. Twice I took the semester long Study Skills class, which certified me as a Study Skills tutor. Along with Study Skills, I tutored English, Literature, Humanities, Formal Logic, writing, and reading. I also have experience tutoring learning disabled and severely disabled students. Thanks for reading!

I am a 2009 graduate of Oberlin College, originally from Santa Cruz, CA and new to Seattle! I received a double major in English and Comparative American Studies, and graduated with high honors. My academic background is in literature, composition, and the social sciences, and I have been involved in teaching and tutoring for 5 years. While I tutor a variety of subjects, my favorite is writing and composition. Throughout college I worked as a course assistant and writing tutor to college freshman, helping to bring students with a wide variety of educational backgrounds up to college level. I love helping students learn to craft an argument, chose their thesis and points, and build a structured, polished essay. I believe all students bring a unique and important perspective to their writing, and my job is helping them find their voice. In my free time, I work as an audio engineer, help out with gardening and cooking at my co-op house, and read widely and enthusiastically.

The past five years have been a steady incline of accomplishments in my professional life. I began working for Montclair High School in 2011 as a job coach in the Transition Program. Within this capacity I realized my career path should be in education. I enrolled in a post baccalaureate certification program to become certified to teach elementary school. During my graduate study I maintained a strong GPA and received my K-6 certification in two years (four semesters). This past year I accepted a job in Rutherford, NJ as the Gifted and Talented/Keyboarding teacher. Since I received my bachelor's degree in Humanities, I had enough credit requirements to apply for the middle school Social Studies and English Language Arts endorsements upon passing the Praxis exam for both subjects, which I did.Being a musician has taught me many valuable lessons which make me an outstanding teacher. In order to be a successful musician one must be patient, intelligent, diligent, meticulous, and good at multi-tasking. Not only am I a musician, but I have played in several bands since I was thirteen years old. Being a part of a band requires one to be a productive team member, creative, responsible, committed, and passionate. When my fingers were bleeding from playing the guitar for six hours straight, while trying to play a riff just right, I learned how to believe in myself and trust that my hard work and dedication will prevail. When I had worked a forty hour work week and had to drive three hours to play an overnight, weekend show, it took passion, commitment, and dedication to show up for my band mates, ready to play and enjoy every second of it. As a teacher, when I am presented with a challenge, I believe in my abilities to problem solve, my experience with working cooperatively with others to find a solution, and my passion for succeeding; all of which I have developed as a musician over the past sixteen years.

I am captivated with the English language, photography, and hiking. So I had to go to SUNY New Paltz where I doubled-majored in English and Communication and Media. Since the English language only became more intriguing to me the more I learned, I earned a M.A. in English while I was tutoring freshmen college students and working as a student-teacher for the Communication and Media department. These experiences made me aware that I loved helping students develop strategies to succeed. As a result, I became a Teaching Assistant at a high school, for two years, guiding students through subject-based tests, state exams, college essays, job preparation and wilderness backpacking experiences. While I worked at the high school, I began working towards earning a Master of the Arts of Teaching degree (December ‘14). I currently work as a Teaching Assistant with middle school students in ELA and Science. We are presently preparing for the state exams with a focus on reading and writing effectively.By reflecting on my experiences, I can say I firmly believe that not all strategies work for every student and it is my job as an educator to help students develop their own bag of strategies that they can reach for in any circumstance. This is accomplished by modeling, remodeling, and teaching the student procedures to help them use those strategies correctly and effectively.

I am an adjunct law school professor, and my passion is teaching students how to solve problems. I received my undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and my law degree from DePaul University. I love all things Chicago, especially the lakefront. I try to read at least two books a week and write in my free time. I have tutored high school students, college students, graduate students, and law students for many years, mainly in reading and writing. Education and learning are of the utmost importance, and when students grasp a concept it is a wonderful victory for any educator, and of course, the student!

I am a graduate of University of California, San Diego. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a focus on International Relations, and a minor in Philosophy. Since graduation, I've been interning at a policy think-tank in Washington, D.C. I really enjoy tutoring a broad range of subjectsfrom math to test prep to writingbecause it keeps me intellectually active and on my toes. I really like to tutor by leading my partner through an analysis of his/her thought process in problem-solving; I've found it's a really effective way to break bad mental habits and create new, good ones.

I am a graduate of Barnard College of Columbia University and I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.I have extensive experience working with students on an individual level and have been tutoring students from elementary school through high school for the past 10 years.I've worked with my students on reading and writing skills, organization and test preparation. My goal is to inspire my students with a lifelong love of learning and to help them develop the tools necessary to achieve that goal. I strive to have my students 'stretch their minds' so that they will succeed in the classroom, on standardized tests and enjoy the process along the way. Most importantly I try to make a connection with my students by listening to them carefully so that I can fully address their specific needs and devise an individualized program of study for them. I find that humor is often a great pathway to making a personal connection and establishing trust. My husband and I own an instructional baseball business where, in addition to helping students perfect their baseball skills, we mentor players who are striving to play baseball in high school, college and on the professional level. I have three children who have either graduated or are currently attending top colleges and universities - Boston University, Amherst College, Columbia University Business School.

As a tutor, I believe that students benefit from a variety of approaches, depending on their backgrounds, current situations and feelings about writing. I believe the most important part of tutoring is empowering the student to feel that he/she is capable of writing and reading well and correcting his/her own errors. I work hard on overcoming the feelings of helplessness and hopelessness that many students experience when faced with writing.I started teaching writing in 1987. Most recently, since 2005, I have taught beginning and advanced comp at Passaic County Community College, advised and tutored students in danger of failing college at Marymount, run the writing component of the CAP program at Pace University (a program which allows students who would not normally be accepted to have a year's probation, when their work needs to be brought up to college level), and taught freshman comp and advanced research classes at York-CUNY. I also piloted and designed a class for below college level writers at Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work. In private tutoring through Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, I have worked with high school students with issues including ESL, Developmental Delays and emotional barriers.Besides freshman comp, I have also taught advanced research and writing skills classes for all majors, and helped students prepare multi-media and new media presentations. I have worked with populations ranging from pre-GED to graduate level and am extremely flexible in my teaching approach. I have a BA, MA and PhD in English.

I am a sophomore at Cornell University studying Computer Science.I enjoy working with students and for the past two years, I have privately tutored students for standardized tests and through the college application process. I believe that standardized testing is not a direct assessment of a student's academic abilities, but rather their specific abilities as a test-taker; my role as a tutor is to instill time-management skills and provide tips on effectively navigating through these exams in order to enable students to become better test-takers.In the realm of mathematics and computer science however, I believe in a proof-based education and truly understanding why theorems work as they do.

I am currently a 2nd year Law Student at Duquesne University. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in History from West Virginia University. I am currently a graduate teaching assistant and I teach two history courses; Ancient Western Civilization and American History: Pre-Civil War. As such I feel very confident tutoring any sort of history course as my own experiences and notes should match closely with your course requirements. I also received very high academic marks on both my LSAT (law school admission test) and SAT's. In addition, I took these 2 exams fairly recently so I am familiar with any new changes or adaptations which may have been made. I stated previously I currently teach two separate courses and teaching truly is my passion. I feel that I am able to build a relationship with my students which allows me to evaluate their needs and adapt my teaching accordingly to ensure their success.
