I have a great love of puzzles. They can come in many forms. There are basic puzzles, such as crosswords or sudoku, and more complex ones. To me, all learning is like solving a puzzle. I am a senior at Georgetown University pursuing a bachelors degree in Biology of Global Health with a pre-medical concentration. My experience includes tutoring and coaching lacrosse to kids ages 5 to 16 for the last 5 years. I am enthusiastic, patient, relaxed, and organized. I really enjoy tutoring the following subjects: Biology, Spanish, Math, English/Writing, and U.S. History. I have always had a passion for science, particularly biology, which is one of the reasons that I plan to attend medical school in a few years. Writing is one of my favorite subjects to tutor as my liberal arts education at Georgetown has taught me how to successfully write papers, articles, and essays for biology, chemistry, history, philosophy, and psychology. I am currently working with a professor and another colleague to publish a project that we have developed that uses ethical leadership as a framework for the Olympic games to address health issues within a host country.Outside of tutoring and being a student, I enjoy playing and coaching sports like lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, kickboxing, and snowboarding. I currently play lacrosse for Georgetown and coach locally. My experiences on teams and as a collegiate athlete have taught me communication, leadership, and organizational skills. These experiences have shaped much of my tutoring philosophy. I believe that patience and positive motivation are crucial to helping students achieve their academic or athletic goals. At the same time, as a student and athlete I know that practice and repetition are the keys to fully understanding whatever material is being taught. As a tutor, it is my responsibility to offer a variety of tools and concepts in order for a student to find the best method to reach their academic goals and to build confidence.

AP Comparative Government and Politics Tutor • +30 Subjects

I am a graduate of the George Washington University where I obtained a BA in Political Science. I subsequently attended the Villanova University School of Law where I obtained my JD. Since graduation, I have worked a variety of jobs in and around the law. Throughout my education I regularly assisted my peers and other students, often helping them edit their writing or grasp the coursework. I'm a firm believer in the importance of a strong educational foundation to give students the tools to achieve whatever they desire in life. I prefer to meet students on their level, helping them in whatever manner and style works best for them. There is no single perfect way to learn and adaptability in teaching is critical for success. While I tutor a broad range of topics, I have a particular passion for English and History, and I love working with students to better their writing. In my spare time I like to travel, follow sports, and cook.

I have taught piano lessons, tutored, and taught middle school for a total of 7 years. I have a bachelor's degree in history education and a minor in math education from Brigham Young University, where I attended on a National Merit scholarship. While in college, I worked as a writing tutor in a writing center on campus for three years, helping students with history and social science essays as well as letters of intent for internships. I also spent a semester in London studying history and English. I taught 7th grade math (pre-algebra) for a year and was the peer tutoring mentor teacher during that time. For the last year and a half I have worked with the teenage girls at church. I teach biweekly Sunday School lessons and help plan weekly activities. Currently I stay at home with our two little boys while my husband works on a PhD at Stanford and I love it, but I miss teaching and working with students.I tutor a wide range of subjects including history, writing, and math. I am passionate about each of them for different reasons. History helps us identify bias, see cause and effect, think critically, and learn empathy. Writing helps us synthesize our thoughts into coherent arguments and can even help us understand things more clearly. Math teaches critical thinking, but also persistence and creativity. What is most important to me, however, is that students feel confident enough to keep trying until they succeed. Teaching 7th grade math opened my eyes to the lack of confidence students often suffer from, and I want all students to feel empowered to learn and succeed rather than just get by.In my spare time I enjoy board games, reading everything from parenting books to classic literature, yoga, lunch with friends, and that energetic feeling after completing a good run.

Hello! I am a graduate of Amherst College and the New York University School of Law, where I recently received my J.D. I have extensive experience tutoring and teaching both academic subjects and test preparation courses. In my experience, students can do extremely well on tests like the SAT, the ACT, the LSAT, and the GRE once they understand how the test works and what each type of question is asking them to do. Whether a student is new to a test, feels like it presents a genuine source of difficulty for him or her, or is trying to figure out how to push towards a perfect score, I know the steps necessary to help that student reach his or her goal.I also have experience tutoring high-school and college-level mathematics, and I regularly write and edit written works, including scholarly papers and judicial opinions, for possible publication. I have a passion for the subjects that usually appear on standardized tests, and I have loved having an opportunity to create that sense of enjoyment in my students as well.

Nearly every academic pursuit and professional field requires writing proficiency. All too often, though, schools universalize writing styles and gloss over editing techniques. The result is an educated college applicant or technically qualified employee who lacks the ability to communicate effectively. I believe all students, regardless of age, can improve upon their reading comprehension and writing proficiency. A tutor who employs an individualized approach can help.Born and raised in Los Angeles, I earned my Bachelors degree in Political Science from UCLA in 2010, graduating in three years with Magna Cum Laude honors. I moved to Atlanta a couple of years ago to pursue a JD. As a current third-year student at the Emory University School of Law, I devote my semesters to reading and writing. I devote my summers to helping others improve their lives. In my spare time, you will find me reading non-fiction, hiking around Stone Mountain, or watching a game on TV. I am an avid sports fan, particularly when it comes to football, basketball and hockey. While I tutor a range of subjects, I truly enjoy helping students improve upon their reading comprehension and analytical writing proficiency. Writing is about effective communication more than a flashy vocabulary, about recognizing your literary audience and tailoring your efforts accordingly. The son of an elementary school teacher, I have helped 4th graders structure paragraphs, 9th graders analyze American poetry, and 12th graders master the Personal Statement on college applications (a joy and specialty of mine). I look forward to helping your son or daughter achieve their reading and writing potential as well.

I graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Sociology. Later this year, I will be pursuing a Master's of Education at graduate school so that I can become officially certified as a teacher in Arizona. In the summer of 2014, I tutored a 2nd grade girl and a 3rd grade girl in topics ranging from negative numbers, multiplication, and division to synonyms, antonyms, and early essay-writing. I tutor elementary math, a variety of English subjects such as essay editing, grammar, literature, reading, and writing, as well as test prep for lower-level ISEE, elementary-level SSAT, and SAT Verbal. Since my current career dream is to teach English, I like tutoring the English-related topics the most. I particularly enjoy the process of helping students with their essay editing and essay writing. When I teach, my goal is to help the student learn how to do something on their own as effectively as possible without making the learning process unpleasant. My hobbies largely consist of reading and keeping up with a number of television shows. My favorite genre is fantasy, but I also find science fiction and thrillers engaging. I'm quite the geek: I attend Phoenix Comicon every year.
