I have served as a science tutor in both my undergraduate and graduate universities. Since completing my doctorate in chemistry, I have been privately tutoring to help fulfill my desire to help others learn. My specialty is chemistry, but I am well versed in biology and physics. I am a graduate of The University of Texas at Dallas (whoosh) and most recently, Louisiana State University (geaux tigers). At UTD, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a focus on geriatric disorders and my Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology with a focus on feeding and swallowing disorders. At LSU, I received my Master of Arts in Communication Disorders with a concentration and thesis on feeding and swallowing disorders within the pediatric population, in particular premature babies. During my time at both LSU and UTD, I tutored in various capacities. I was a teaching assistant for a Statistics class for 5 semesters at UTD. At LSU, I tutored student athletes for 15 months in various subjects. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math. In my experience helping students (elementary-college), Math always seems to be a subject where students have a mental block. It is always a pleasure to get through that block and break (seemingly) complex problems into their parts and then watch the student work through the problem on their own. I am a strong believer in continued learning throughout life and try to instill this drive within my students. Before college, I graduated from Hopkins School in New Haven, CT where I took a number of AP and honors classes and completed a senior project in creative writing.Because of my diverse academic background, I am able to tutor in a variety of subjects from middle school all the way up to introductory college courses. I especially enjoy helping students with math or English coursework. I can also help with a variety of standardized tests, from the SSAT to the MCAT. I am very interested in helping students overcome test anxiety by learning strategies that can help them stay calm and be efficient. In particular, I want to help students who struggle with timed essays - I myself had to learn ways to complete them successfully, and I hope I can pass on some of these skills.Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering, making music, and reading.
