Some of my life achievements include, being an all county 1st singles player on my high school tennis team, improving my max bench press by 35lbs in 3 months, running a marathon, climbing a mountain, clearing a 40 feet long ski jump, ranking in the top 10 players in upstate NY in a video game, getting a job in my field immediately after college, being chosen to lead a project at work even though I am one of the newest people there, completing 3 college degrees in 5 years with a high GPA, working at least part time every year since I was in 10th grade, and ranking 1st every week in location accuracy and pulls per week as a backroom team member at Target. I am currently independently learning coding through codecademy.com and freecodecamp.com and am in the process of creating my own website.These things all resulted from the common theme of focused effort and a clear mindset for improvement. Improvement happens when you try to do something, fail, figure out what you're doing wrong, and try to fix it. Everyone can improve at everything if they stay focused, adapt their improvement methods, and try again. It's never too late. Some things take more time than others, but everything is achievable. If you have an idea of what you want to accomplish in the future, start now and you'll be much more likely to get to where you want to be.

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, pursuing my bachelors degree in Computer Science. I have a wide knowledge of mathematics and computer programming. My strongest subjects being Algebra I, Algebra II, Calculus I, Calculus II and C++ programming. By understanding these concepts, I can teach other students the methods to solve the problems in these areas.In the summer of 2013, I tutored middle school students in Algebra. I supervised a total of 10 students and helped them understand the concepts and study for important tests. During that summer, I worked with these students and helped them improve their skills in these areas. I have always found teaching these subjects very rewarding. I received a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from UMass Dartmouth and a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University. I have extensive experience in Math, Science, Physics and Engineering which I use on a daily basis. I previously tutored at UMass and have been a teaching assistant for more than 20 students. I am also involved in an outreach program at my local vocational high school to help motivate young students towards engineering disciplines. I work currently for a large international engineering consulting company and specialize in water engineering.I am a strong believer than learning occurs in a much different way than the traditional lecture method given in schools. Schools are teaching hard facts and not showing students how subjects can be applied to real life. Students miss out on many wonderful realizations in their daily lives because they don't understand how chemistry helped create computers, or the historical context that has created the current political climate.Tutoring sessions with me are structured much differently than a traditional class. I don't lecture; Learning with me is a conversation in which we will talk through a concept together, and then the student proves their understanding by teaching it back. I try to break sessions up with timed quizzes, real world applications, and scenario problems whenever possible to keep the student engaged and energized.I understand most student's goals are to perform better in the classroom, and that is what we will work towards, but i also intend for my students to leave each session with the ability to understand a little bit more of the world around them.

I just graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rowan University with a B.S. in Mathematics, minor in Computer Science, and a concentration in Applied Math. At Rowan I was president of our math team and volunteer tutored three hours each week while also tutoring high school students on the side. In the fall I will be attending Rutgers University in pursuit of a PhD in Applied Math. I have also done math research for the last two years which resulted in one published paper (with two more on the way), talks, conferences, and an REU at The Institute for Computational and Experimental Mathematics at Brown University last summer. What I am trying to say is that I love math. I love doing it, talking about it, and teaching others about it.
