Calculus Tutoring review by Erica in Miami Beach, FL
In this session, we worked on preparing the student for her exam. She came to the session with a very neat list of questions from each homework covered on this exam, so we went to each question and worked one like it (an option through the homework platform) so that she understood not only how to find the answers, but also the appropriate work needed to be shown for the given problems and (more importantly) why the answers were what they were (i.e. so that she understood the underlying concepts at play). We covered limits, derivatives, Riemann approximations of integrals, and finding the anti-derivative (in general and when given an initial condition). She is very sharp and has a great passion for learning why things work the way they do. She would be an incredible researcher, scientist, or engineer.

Calculus Tutoring review by Eric in Miami Beach, FL
Today we briefly went over the student's last exam. After the exam review we did several practice problems solving for absolute extrema. This involved finding the first and second derivatives as well as some graphing techniques. Today was a good session. We made a plan for the remaining sessions and what we will cover in each session. I feel confident that the student will achieve his goal of passing the course with his current understanding of the material and current standing in the class.

The student and I discussed trigonometry concepts. We went through practice problems including solving trigonometric equations without a calculator, using the unit circle, and converting from degrees to radians. We also looked at using trig substitutions for solving integrals.

We continued working on integrals including the Average Value of a function, the Mean Value Theorem for Integrals, and Integration by Substitution. The student got a kick out of checking the answers with derivatives and how they worked back to the original problem.

Calculus Tutoring review by Joseph in Miami Beach, FL
The student and I practiced some more differentiation today to make sure that she understood the processes clearly; then we moved on to the first- and second-derivative tests to determine relative extrema, inflection points, and intervals of increase, decrease, and concavity.

Calculus Tutoring review by Daniel in Miami Beach, FL
The student is currently studying using derivatives to determine information about their parent function such as local minimum/maximums and intervals where the function is increasing or decreasing. We worked through some online homework problems covering the material. The student has a good grasp of the material, so I also spent some time going over practical areas where the material is applied in real world sciences and engineering.
