Amanda: Escondido tutor
Certified Tutor
I'm passionate about helping students because I believe that language is a powerful tool for connection, confidence, and self-expression. Over the past decade, I've supported learners of all ages in building their skills in both English and Spanish, with a special focus on creating meaningful, personalized learning experiences. My teaching journey began in 2014 as a volunteer ESL tutor while completing my degree, and since then I've worked as a bilingual paraeducator, a TEFL-certified teacher, and a private language coach.
I earned my degree in Spanish and English at the University of New Orleans and later received TEFL certification to deepen my approach to teaching English as a foreign language. I've taught in U.S. schools, private bilingual schools in Colombia, and in one-on-one settings with children, teens, and adults. I tutor English, Spanish, and literacy-related subjects including reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, and academic content in English such as science and social studies (and even elementary math).
My favorite subject to tutor is language artsespecially reading and writingbecause I find it incredibly rewarding to help students express themselves and engage critically with the world through words. I also enjoy working with beginner to intermediate and advanced adult learners who are looking to use English or Spanish in real-life contexts to level up in their career, travel, or day-to-day conversation.
My teaching philosophy centers on a student-centered, communicative approach focused on the success of each individual using their strengths and interests to engage them fully in the learning experience. I use a mix of strategies tailored to each learner's goals, interests, and learning style. I draw from the theory of multiple intelligences and emphasize all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. My tutoring style is dynamic and supportive, with an emphasis on immersion, discussion, and relevant, practical application.
Outside of teaching, I love to travel, write, read, and connect with people from all over the world. I see each lesson as an opportunity for mutual growth and discovery.

Undergraduate Degree: University of New Orleans - Bachelor in Arts, Spanish
My main interests include traveling on a budget, learning languages, reading for pleasure and for knowledge, and writing (from poetry to blogging). I'm currently focusing on studying and improving my French, Portuguese, German, and Japanese skills in my free time. I enjoy connecting with people from different cultures, playing tabletop and video games, singing karaoke and dancing, eating and cooking new foods, and exploring the world through shared cultural experiences. I'm a lifelong learner (currently working on my Google Cybersecurity certification) who finds joy in creativity through film, storytelling, art, and discovering new perspectives on literature, philosophy, politics, and current events through conversation.
