I'm Joe and it's a pleasure to meet you! I work as a Medical Physicist, where I apply concepts of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology to the world of cancer care. I have both an undergraduate and graduate degree in physics and have completed residency training in medical physics. I have had a deep interest in teaching STEM related fields to high school and college students in a classroom setting and now am interested in carrying this into individualized education.
The courses that I am most interested in teaching are physics, mathematics (pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, differential equations and linear algebra), biology, and chemistry. My interest in these courses stems from the singular mode by which they are traditionally taught, leading many folks to believe that "they are not math/science people" or that "I cannot learn that." These courses, like all other courses, have their challenges and I address these challenges on an individual basis focused on the learning style (written, visual, audible) of the student. To do this, I develop very short mini-lesson plans guided on educating me: the goal of the mini-lesson plans is to quickly identify areas of weakness and then hone in on these areas with my students for as long as they need to build a strong foundation moving forward. This also allows me to maximize time with students on work they are interested in pursuing such as classwork or previous examinations.
My biggest strength is my ability to adapt the way that I teach. I welcome all questions, comments, and concerns and look forward to working with you!
