Certified Tutor
I am a recent aerospace engineering graduate from Georgia Tech with a minor in Spanish. I have always enjoying helping others learn and have tutored in person all throughout middle and high school for the 4 core subjects and Spanish. I also have 2 years of experience being a teaching assistant at the collegiate level for Physics I: Mechanics, which was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. A key reason I've chosen to be a tutor is the happiness it gives me when my students have finally understood something they have been struggling with. In high school, I tutored two Spanish-speaking foreign exchange students who were failing their Algebra 2 class because they did not understand the lectures which were given in English. As an intermediate Spanish speaker at the time, I took on the challenge of teaching them the content while picking up on some vocabulary myself! I was so proud to see them raise their grades to a 'B' in the course and feel confident in a subject they were struggling in. Seeing how well those students did with just a little bit of help and wanting to spread the impact mentorship and tutoring have on a student's success, I have devoted my extra time and my career to mentorship and helping other students grow and learn! Although I teach a broad range of subjects and my passions lie with STEM subjects (Algebra I,II and Physics I specifically!), this experience strengthened my equal passion for language and communication. My biggest takeaway from this experience is that teachers need to speak the student's language, not just literally, but arguably more importantly, their learning language. As a result, my teaching philosophy is to teach a subject in multiple ways to help students retain and absorb information. I am a firm proponent of education being the key to success and a firm believer that anyone can overcome any number of obstacles with some persistence, determination, and a little bit of help.
