Hello! For the past two years I have worked as an 11th and 12th grade English teacher at a Title I school in the Arkansas Delta. My passion is seeing the joy in my students' faces when they finally master what they've worked so hard to achieve. I have experience with a spectrum of ages and abilities. My teaching philosophy is simple: make material applicable to the student's life (yes, even ACT material can be applicable!).

I attended undergrad at Indiana University, graduating in three years, magna cum laude, with a degree in English and political science. For two years I worked as a teaching assistant in the department of political science. I held weekly office hours and worked one-on-one with undergraduates who were struggling with course material.

I'm currently a doctoral student in audiology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

In my spare time I play banjo, paint, read, and play tennis.

I'm thrilled to have the chance to work with your student. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or would like to chat about your student's needs prior to expressing interest in scheduling an appointment.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Make material applicable to students' lives. All material can be made relatable; sometimes it just takes some creativity.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I want to get to know the student and I want the student to get to know me. Upon this foundation, I can begin setting goals with him or her and creating expectations for performance.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

When you, as a teacher, have successfully made the material relatable to a student, you foster inquisitiveness. Relatable material is more easily digested and understood than something that bores the student.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

All students are different! Motivation is the foundation upon which successful learning is built. A good teacher can quickly figure out what it takes to motivate a student, but they are each unique and each require something different.
