Certified Tutor

I am a chemical engineer for Imat Automotive Technologies. Additionally, I have just finished a Master in Chemical Science with a specialization in organometallic chemistry from Kennesaw State University. In 2015 I graduated from Emory with my BS in Chemistry and BA in Music.

I believe that tutoring provides me with an unparalleled experience when it comes to learning how to communicate information and my knowledge to people of a variety of different backgrounds. My prior experiences have provided me opportunities to grow and practice leadership skills both working individually and in teams, but nothing as extensive as tutoring. I have developed a discerning attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and other requisite skills and abilities that are vital to being a successful tutor. I use every opportunity I am given to grow, and I take full advantage whenever such occurrences arise. My academic endeavors and professional experiences, have provided me with many avenues to flourish, and I want to be able to pass on my knowledge to helping others.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Not everyone will achieve their goals from 0 to 10 in a day, however 0 to 1 is possible. All students can succeed, but they must believe that they can and must see the value they have as a person. I do not believe in using harsh tones and empty threats as a tutor because students do not learn faster or better that way. They become less confident in answering questions and will always second guess themselves. My philosophy is to assist students first in becoming confident with themselves, so they know that learning new topics is not impossible.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

First, I would determine the goals of the parent or student that I am tutoring. Then, I would assess the student's level in the subject and learn their weaknesses. Lastly, I would discuss with the student their learning preferences. I must shape each student's sessions to adapt with their learning style to make the most of the time we have together.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

A student cannot be independent if they do not believe that they are intelligent or capable. Encouragement for every right step or answer is key. I do not believe in rushing through a problem. I would show them how to simplify topic questions to better suit their abilities.
