I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Nabila

Certified Tutor

I graduated from the University of Richmond in 2012 as a PPEL (Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, and Law) major, with a concentration in economics. I was awarded a Fulbright grant for an English Teaching Assistantship in Malaysia for 2013, before which I worked as a Kaplan tutor. After my assistantship I worked as an office associate for Teach For Bangladesh, an education nonprofit modeled after Teach for America. I have recently come back from Ghana where I created and ran an adult literacy and numeracy project, and I am currently volunteering with the YMCA to help ESL students from local elementary schools with their homework and other skills they may need to work on.

In general, I believe that as a teacher it is my responsibility to understand how a student learns, what concepts they have mastered, and what concepts they still need practice with, and then work to address those needs. I tutor a wide range of subjects, including math, test prep, reading, writing, and more. As an IB Diploma graduate from Henrico High School, I am also familiar with the demands of the IB curriculum. My favorite subject to tutor is English, since it allows students wide berth to get creative. Outside of school, I enjoy drawing, music (I used to play the cello), and especially cooking. I also love swimming and reading, and when inspiration occasionally strikes, writing.
