I got my start teaching as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Rwanda, where I taught English to national park rangers and leadership skills to local high school students. Since then, I've taught students of all levels and subjects, from high school geography to graduate-level ecology. While I studied conservation science and ecology as a graduate student at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, I got my bachelor's degree in International Relations from the George Washington University, so I'm comfortable teaching humanities and social sciences as well as math and science.
Teaching is the most rewarding job I've ever had. I love working with students to find what motivates them, and helping to achieve their goals. I particularly love teaching social sciences and writing. It's so great to see a light go on when you connect a concept in economics to a story students have heard in the news, or to see a student work through an essay until she has something that makes her truly proud. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy cooking, being outdoors, reading, traveling, and listening to nerdy podcasts.
