Certified Tutor

I am in my third year of teaching 6th grade at Brooklyn School for Collaborative Studies in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. I completed a dual Masters Degree in Special Education and General Education, Grades 1-9, at Hunter College, through the New York City Teaching Fellows Program.
I have worked with students at many different ability levels, and with a variety of special needs, in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, organization and social-emotional skills. I have taught students in a whole class format, in small groups, and one on one. I am able to scaffold material at various levels and tailor lessons to meet individual needs. Before I started teaching full time, I did a great deal of tutoring, and I also worked as an assistant teacher at a pre-school.
I love teaching and working with children and teenagers. Having a close relationship with students I work with is extremely important to me, and I work hard to build trust and rapport. I also believe learning should be engaging, and I do my best to make each lesson relevant and interesting, which includes teaching to multiple learning styles by incorporating media, hands-on activities, and experiential learning. I also build in educational games and choices whenever possible. I have firm boundaries and high expectations of all my students. In teaching, I strive to have close relationships and open communication with the families of my students, and I hope to achieve the same with the families of students I tutor. I strongly believe all students are capable of learning and achieving their goals. I look forward to working with your child!
