I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and received a B.A. in English literature at the University of California at Berkeley, an MS at UNC Chapel Hill, and a Law Degree at Cardozo. As a 2009 Teach for America corps member, I was placed in Houston, primarily as a science teacher, though I dabbled in much more! I was a certified teacher, with three years of teaching experience. Now that I work full time, and am no longer in the classroom, tutoring is my hobby. Though my teaching background is in the maths and sciences, literature and writing are my passions.
My students have known great success from elementary upwards: I have helped 1st graders write their first book reports, trained 3rd-grade spelling bee champions, taught a 5th grade class in which 100% of the students passed their TAKS and 47% of whom received commended status, coached a middle-school research team win a statewide environmental impact competition, and even helped students with applications to both college and graduate school.
As a teacher, I developed a particular joy in serving as a steward for students to change their own futures through their hard work and investment in their own educations. That is what I intend to continually do as a tutor.
