In today's session, the student and I focused on calculus. We reviewed implicit differentiation, product/quotient rule, chain rule, solving for the tangent line, a little on solving for x when given polynomials, and the unit circle. Overall, the student did well. He does know several of the concepts well.

This was our last session before the test, so we did some review in all the subject areas, with an emphasis on English. We used a test that seems harder than the actual ACT. It had more rhetorical skills questions than the real test, so it was good practice. Content-wise, he is ready for the test.

The student wrote an essay to a sample prompt and we reviewed how to brainstorm and write an organized essay with concrete details. We reviewed techniques on how to determine the best possible answer for SAT English questions testing vocabulary and sentence sense. I assigned ten new vocabulary words per day until next session.

The student didn't have school on Monday, so we went over his homework that would be due on Tuesday. He had to read several passages and answer questions based upon his reading. We then took a quick look at the algebra that he'd complete on Tuesday.

We went over clock time. We also went over adding and subtracting clock time. We went over money. The student added money amounts. We went over mental math drills. These are adding and subtracting problems. We went over her homework on reading comprehension. We went over compound words.
