I recently graduated summa cum laude from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Theatre and completion of the premed track. I've been tutoring for six years in subjects ranging from Algebra to Spanish to Writing and many others. I find teaching so rewarding because not only can I help others with their studies, but often I learn something new, too!Effective learning stems from a true interest in the material and a desire to do well, and I have always been good at instilling my academic curiosity in others. Finding even one facet of a subject that really piques a student's interest can make them think of learning as an engaging, exciting endeavor instead of an onerous chore. Call me an idealist, but I think learning should be fun!Though I keep the tone of my sessions light, I do expect my students to put in the effort necessary to achieve their goals. With my guidance, my support, and their hard work, I am confident that I can help my students find success. When I'm not tutoring I keep myself busy with many other things. I love theatre, and I have performed in dozens of community, school, and professional productions in the past. I also adore animals. I volunteer at shelters, shadow veterinarians, and I even have eight cats and two dogs at home! In the time that's remaining, I like to read, hang out with friends, and swim.

I am a pre-Occupational Therapy student majoring in psychology with minors in neuroscience and art. I will be graduating with honors from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in May, and I will begin Washington University School of Medicine's Doctorate of Occupational Therapy Program this Fall. My academic pursuits have made me confident in my abilities to tutor those pursing degrees in social sciences along with those pursuing careers in health care. Currently my favorite subject is neuroscience. I fell in love with it after I started college and I plan on specializing in neurorehabilitionation as an occupational therapist.I have many years of experience working with children of all ages and abilities in many settings, including previous tutoring. I also have many years of experience working with children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. These experiences have provided me with skills to develop individualized plans to help individuals achieve their goals. I have had much success when applying these skills to my tutoring plans. I have also used and developed these skills further in the research I have conducted on promoting independence in adults with Autism and early intervention programs for children with Autism. My individualized interventions in both research projects resulted in increased fine motor skills in children (increasing their independence in daily cares) and successfully preparing adults for independently working in their community. These skills are also utilized in my other job at an assisted living facility for nonverbal adults with Autism.I am very happy and willing to help anyone of any age reach their full potential and pursue any goals they possess.Contact me personally for weekend availability. Currently I will often have some availability each weekend day but the time varies due to my other job. In the future, I can schedule these shifts around tutoring sessions if you wish to meet with me on the weekends.

I graduated from Haverford College with High Honours in Classical Language and Literature and from Oxford University (MSt) in Classics. My academic background includes a large amount of reading, analysis, and writing, which are suited to the SAT preparation. I especially love teaching Latin; over the past four years I have helped students master grammar and translation, while transferring my enthusiasm for the language and literature itself. I work very hard to make sure that my students make progress! In order to make this happen, I will tailor my approach to a subject to the specific needs of each student. In my spare time, I do landscape painting in oils and pastels. I also enjoy rowing and generally being outdoors.

I have always enjoyed helping my fellow students learn math and science. I feel like I can relate to many students because I have a variety of interests such as tennis, robotics, and reading. I try to make my sessions as fun as possible so that my students will remain interested in the subject matter for a longer period of time. I teach to the level of the student and explain using terms they will understand. Teaching others can sometimes seem difficult, but I believe it is ultimately rewarding. I am working towards completing a computer engineering major.

I believe in active learning and using the outdoors when possible. I was a key participant in the implementation of U.T.O.T.E.S.(Using the Outdoors to teach Experiential Science) professional development and developing outdoor learning areas in my first school.Though I was born in the SW mountains of NC, I spent some time as a child in S. Florida prior to returning to the mountains in middle school. I love to hike, camp, fish, and kayak. I also spent a great deal of time mountain and road biking in the late 1990's. I am passionately curious and have done a great deal of traveling mostly across the U.S. and Europe. I love to journal, read and do almost anything creative. I have a diverse love of music and become extremely excited over things like fireworks, funky post-its, Christmas, spontaneity, Sharpies and more! I firmly believe anything is possible and that there are many alternatives to use in place of "I can't". ALL are capable! I work diligently until the student and I find how to best connect and to comprehend according to their interests and strengths.I am currently staying at home to spend as much time with my family as possible. I have a great sense of humor and love to cut-up! However, a core philosophy is to work hard so you can play hard.

Common challenges include gaps from earlier material, difficulty with specific concepts, and trouble applying what's learned to new problems. These issues compound quickly in MBA because topics build on each other.
