These jobs made me realize how much I wanted to be a teacher full time.I went back for my Registered Nursing Degree at University of Delaware, with the specific aim of teaching nursing once I had some experience. While at school I was a TA for Pathophysiology, Histology and I did some tutoring for Biology I. As a nurse I have worked in the Emergency Department, ICU, Surgical Unit, Medical Unit and in home health care. I had some experience in the medical field prior to nursing school as a student athletic trainer at Duke and a volunteer EMT for a Pennsylvania 911 ambulance company.For the past 7 years I have been teaching LPN Medical Surgical Nursing and NCLEX preparation. I have also taught Pharmacology, Leadership and Management and clinical classes. I am especially passionate about Medical Surgical Nursing.My time in nursing education has taught me that everyone needs a little help sometimes. I am a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington! I earned a B.S. in Physics with honors as well as a minor in mathematics. I worked in a theoretical physics lab modeling and simulating new materials to be used in solar energy applications, as well as tutored physics independently. While in college, I was part of the UTeach program, a nationwide initiative to train science and math students to teach. In this program I developed a passion for working with students both in and out of the classroom. I strongly believe in inquiry-based instruction, which consists of leading students to develop solutions on their own while analyzing their thought process. This allows the student and instructor to discover the student's misconceptions and for the student to correct them. I have found that this method is much more effective than traditional styles because when the student verbalizes their thought process and corrects their own misconceptions, it is something they will remember when it comes time for an exam.I am passionate about tutoring mathematics, physics, chemistry, and ACT prep. By having a proficient understanding of the material, combined with an inquiry-based teaching style I feel as though I am able to convey difficult concepts to students in a way that they will remember and enjoy. As an undergraduate, I had the chance to serve in two teaching positions on campus. In the first course, I assisted graduate students and professors to guide a class through core level biology. The second was a hands-on affair, in which I led students through the preparation of animal specimens for preservation in a museum. Through my experiences, I have discovered that the best way to learn and teach a subject is to tackle it with a variety of approaches. For example, students intimidated by the technical jargon of math often find problems easier to understand when symbols are replaced with words. Through such strategies, I aim to make dense material more communicable and relatable and to provide students with the confidence to accept new challenges. I am most excited to discuss ecology, evolution, and math, but I am also able to tutor subjects such as physics, writing, and standardized testing. In my free time, I enjoy playing video games, practicing martial arts, and hiking.

As an opera singer, I am constantly learning. I work every day to refine my craft. But, in order to do that, I had to discover my best learning method. During my years at Carnegie Mellon University, where I graduated with honors with a bachelors in English and a bachelors in Music, I worked as an after school tutor in the Pittsburgh area, helping students with difficult subjects. I discovered that it was less the student's inability to learn but rather the way a subject was presented. I continued my education at Manhattan School of Music, receiving my masters in Music. In my experience, every student has the ability to learn a subject, it is only a matter of discovering which learning method works best for them.
