...don't see learning as a static process, whereby a student studies for a test, passes it, then lets the information slip away. Rather, I believe the student should be truly hungry to absorb the material, to truly own it, then use that newfound knowledge as the jump-off point for even higher achievement. The student should never sit still in his/her academic achievements; rather he/she should always strive to improve and grow. It is my job...

Gifted Tutoring FAQ
Joining a gifted and talented class can be an eye opener for a student who is used to the pace of a standard elementary school class. While some students easily make the transition to a faster pace and more advanced concepts, others take time to adjust. If your child is in the latter group, gifted and talented tutoring can be a big help, and Varsity Tutors can help match your child with a skilled tutor who can help him or her handle the work.
When you have your child work with a gifted and talented tutor, your child will be able to explore multiple topics in a new way, including:
Advanced vocabulary
Geometric basics
Systems of numbers
Essay writing
Study habits
Opting for elementary school gifted and talented tutoring allows your child to focus on any aspect of his or her class that's causing problems. For example, your child might be struggling with managing the increased workload of the gifted course while still keeping up in his or her other subjects. A tutor can show your child how to manage their time and work quicker so that they can stay on top of all of their tasks.
Or perhaps you're searching for "gifted and talented tutoring near me" because your child is having problems with understanding the point of one of the reading assignments in his or her class. Your tutor can help relate the work to something that your young student has already read, allowing them to make a connection and make the more advanced assignment seem more familiar.
A gifted and talented tutor can even help students who are ahead of their class and want to go more in-depth on a particular topic. Let's say that your child shows a strong interest in the basics of algebra and wants to get a better understanding of the subject before moving on to middle school. Your tutor can help explain some advanced concepts to your child and ensure that he or she is ready for the work when the rest of the class reaches that level.
No matter what your child's academic interests are, gifted and talented tutoring can be a big help toward making their academic goals a reality. If your child isn't getting the most out of his or her gifted and talented course, Varsity Tutors can help you find a tutor who understands the material well and can help make it make sense to your child. Recent Gifted Tutoring Session Notes
Tonight, the student put the finishing touches on her portfolio. It is due by the 5th. Her mother was very pleased. Next week, we will get back to another subject, and I do not know what that is yet, but I sure enjoy this client!
Today the student and I focused on studying for the science test she has tomorrow on elements and minerals. Because there were several lists of criteria for determining minerals and how they are formed, we worked on a strategies using acronyms to help her remember. By the end of the session I think she had a much better understanding of the material.
We worked on his study guide for algebra 2 since he has a test tomorrow. Then we talked about his study habits/organization habits and I showed him the organization app I use to keep track of things. He downloaded the app and we went through some of his folders to clear out old/unnecessary files. He also showed me the Haiku system that his school uses to organize new files. Since it is the beginning of the semester, he does not have any late assignments at the moment. We made a plan to meet next week three times.
We developed a proactive study schedule so he can be better prepared for quizzes and tests, and reviewed all of his basics to make sure he's doing what he's agreed to.
The student and I studied for her Spanish test. I also assigned additional worksheets to help her study further for the exam. We focused on vocabulary review, e->i.e. verb conjugation, and direct object pronouns. We also fleshed out the outline for hers upcoming Comm Arts essay. We reviewed and finished her History notes as well.
The student and I continued with math homework today (that subject seems to be his problem area). He has shown much improvement in the subject! Last week we had to go through much of the homework together, but this week he was definitely leading and I was just guiding him in the right direction!
