I graduated from the University of Notre Dame summa cum laude, receiving my BA in Spanish and Premedical Studies.I have tutored many different subjects at nearly all levelsfrom high school to graduate schoolbut I love to teach college-level science the most. I am passionate about helping my students to achieve their goals and to be a positive voice for them. When not working, I love to travel and to cook.

I majored in Middle Eastern Studies and minored in math during undergrad at Cornell. Since graduating I've worked in a number of fields and countries, although the common theme is teaching English and researching in the Middle East. As an English Teaching Assistant at Weill Medical School in Qatar, I became competent at editing and guiding students in writing. I'm now a first year fellow studying Policy Analysis at the Pardee RAND Graduate School.

I'm a New York transplant to LA, and a freelance composer and musician by nature. I am an artist and a teacher-- these are my two passions! I'm also a translator, linguistics nerd, avid reader, and fabulous teacher. I went to NYU and studied Linguistics, and am continuing my studies for an Applied Linguistics Masters here in California.I have been teaching and tutoring for many years, since I started college. I've done private SAT Prep tutoring both here and in New York, as well as prep for other standardized tests such as the ISEE, SSAT, and HSPT. I also teach a bi-weekly SAT Prep course in Glendale, and an advanced Competition Math class for two age groups (6-8 and 9-12). It's a lot of fun! I've always found math pretty neat and like to get students interested in it too!I love to travel and have been fortunate enough to do a lot of it during my quarter-century on this planetRussia, all over Europe, the Middle East, Venezuela, Mexico, India, and pretty much every state in this country. You only live once, and I really do learn something new every day.Of all the jobs I've had while pursuing music and art, I've found that teaching is the one in which I have the most to offer and that gives me the most in return. I believe that confidence is the largest factor in success at anything, and preparation leads to confidence. This applies to the SAT test; it applies to performing a concert; it is universal. Currently, I'm pursuing a master's in library science (focusing on youth services) from Simmons University. I spent two years as a reporter for a local newspaper covering education, where I realized just how much I enjoy working with students. Due to my educational background and personal interests, I'm most passionate about tutoring literature and writing. Words are our most powerful tool! I want to help young people develop their voices and realize that reading doesn't have to be a chore.

I believe all students (motivated and struggling) can achieve their goals; it is a matter of giving them the appropriate tools to reach their goals. So, classes are tailored to the student's individual needs. For example, we find angles and fractions with fun; we improve our critical thinking skills through literature; we improve our English/Spanish skills through interesting conversations, games, and roleplay. We vigorously prepare for Standardized Tests. Students are not only equipped with academic tools but also life tools. I have lived in Spain for many years and have a strong background in teaching L2 students. I graduated from St. Joseph College with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and a minor in math.

I was still in middle school when I had my first story published in a professional daily newspaper, The York (Pa.) Dispatch. Seeing my byline in print reeled me in: I knew I was going to be a journalist. Since then, my passion for writing and editing has taken me to Chicago, where I graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in 2004; to Miami, where I worked as a metro reporter at The Miami Herald from 2004-2009; and most recently to St. Louis, where I am now a features reporter, editor and columnist at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I have always genuinely enjoyed helping others -- colleagues, students, friends and family -- fine-tune their writing, whether it's a newspaper story, personal essay, fiction manuscript or science report. At Varsity Tutors, I have worked with all levels of students, from fifth-graders to college freshmen. I love words, and I try to convey that by tutoring with a sense of fun when it comes to spelling, grammar and basic writing. I also help high school juniors and seniors with their college-application essays. Depending on each student's needs, we can either start from the beginning to brainstorm ideas and craft an outline, or we can collaborate on editing and revising drafts until the essays are in tip-top shape.
