Having the opportunity to tutor students in the subjects I enjoy most is exciting. I hope to be able to help students reach their full potential.I hold a Bachelors Degree in Molecular Genetics, with a minor in European History, from The Ohio State University, as well as a Masters Degree in Medical Physiology from Case Western Reserve University. I will be applying to medical school next year and consider tutoring an ideal endeavor for the interim period.I have teaching experience at multiple levels of education. This past year I was employed as a Teaching Assistant for a graduate-level Immunology class at CWRU and have also tutored inner-city grade school children in mathematics, reading, science, and social studies.I am qualified to tutor any K-8 subject, all levels of Biology (including AP and College), Immunology, History, and Public Speaking. Biology is the subject for which I am most passionate, as I find it challenging and have always excelled at it.My style of teaching is both hands on and visual. I like to draw and physically show concepts as much as possible. I also employ a reverse teaching style where I challenge the student to explain the subject matter to me in detail. This method has generally worked well as it clearly demonstrates to the students where they need the most assistance in any particular area.Personally, I am a huge sports fan, especially Ohio State Football. I love boating, ice skating, and spending time with my adorable year-old son, husband, and my dog.

Since graduation, I worked as a teaching assistant with Blue Engine, an education non-profit in New York City that accelerates student achievement by harnessing the power of team teaching. In my two years with Blue Engine, I taught Algebra I and Algebra II. Next year I will be teaching 8th Grade Math and Geometry as a full time teacher in a public school while completing my Masters degree in Teaching through Relay Graduate School of Education. I am a PhD student at the University of Michigan, studying social psychology. Before this, I was at Duke University completing a BS in psychology as well as a MS in global health. My research combines the fields of global health and psychology by examining the effects of culture on self-related psychological processes. I hope to continue in academia to become a professor of psychology, as teaching is among my greatest passions.I offer tutoring services in SAT and GRE prep, as well as in grammar, writing, and essay editing. I also provide help with AP Lang, Lit, 2-D Studio Art, Music Theory, and Psychology. I believe that all tutors should be patient enough to listen to each student's unique needs, and flexible enough to respond accordingly. We all learn in different ways, and it's my job to calibrate my teaching to your learning speed and style.

No one in my household had a formal education but they always encouraged us to study. When I go back home, I am reminded that education took me out of a tough area and saved me from the hustler game. Currently, my dreams and my goals far outshine those of my neighborhood peers.Education is the key to all of my progress. I've seen firsthand how education improves lives.I was living in Buenos Aires when I met a young woman that needed to pass a professional English exam because she had failed it six times before meeting me and needed to pass it in order to graduate from her university. After working together with her, she finally passed. She was really happy but I was thrilled! It was my first time teaching and I was able to change someone's life for the better. I fell in love with teaching at that very moment. I continued teaching her university friends until I had to move. Each of my students passed. This experience helped me to realize that I need to give back to education as education allowed me to do so much. A lot of people helped me along the way as I went from preschool all the way through to law school graduation. One of the main things that helped me to teach this population is the fact that I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish. The ability to speak more than 1 language opens up a whole new world. You get to experience new songs and dances, new friends, conversations for fun or for work, the ability to help others that struggle in one of your languages. The opportunities are immeasurable! In my opinion, the best way to get noticeably positive results is to push students just the right amount. If they are pushed too much, you might turn them away.If you do not push them, however, the results can include a loss of interest, a lack of effort, less learning, and you might create bad study habits. There are benefits to pushing students. It encourages them to be more studious, knowledgeable and curious. If you can learn to learn then you will gain information and therefore become more intellectual.

I'm a senior at the University of Vermont who has been a teaching assistant for C++, Java, and Data Structures and Algorithms college courses over the last two years! I regularly work with and teach up to 40 other undergrads during office hours as well as grade assignments and projects and give relevant feedback. The students I work with successfully complete their assignments and gain an increased familiarity with the content. I also have numerous machine learning projects with Python/Jupyter Notebook and explore my passion through tackling new data problems every day. My goal of the first session with any student is to gain a rapport with them and find common ground so we feel comfortable with each other. From there, I like to break complicated concepts down into their simple parts and demonstrate the big picture (the why?) of the importance of whatever idea we're going over. I'm excited to get to know and work with you!

I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Dallas. I am 3 years into my Bachelor of Science in Physics, and i transferred this year to finish my degree at UTD. Until I transferred I was working on two degrees : one in Physics and one in Mathematics, but due to the curriculum difference I decided to drop my mathematics major. Throughout my three years in college as well as my senior year in high school, I've had experience tutoring students in various subjects such as trigonometry-based physics, calculus-based physics, as well as AP calculus. Calculus-based Physics is my passion when it comes to tutoring, since I've developed quite a bit of experience with it so I have been able to practice different ways with working with students on this subject. I base my tutoring methods on the idea that the student's ability to derive, understand ,explain a concept is the ultimate goal. It is really exciting to see a student understand the material and be able to demonstrate their new-found knowledge confidently . Besides my studies in Physics, I enjoy playing videos games, creating electronic music, programming, reading , and listening to my vast music library.

I am a Jamaican by birth and now a citizen of the US. My undergrad degree is in English Language and English Literature and I am a trained teacher. As a Fulbright scholar, I obtained a Masters in Education in Reading and Literacy from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. I remained there where I completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Private Sector Administration on a PEO International Peace Scholarship for Women. My extensive teaching experience encompasses instruction at the junior high, high school, college and university levels. As a college professor, I have had the privilege of teaching teachers, undergraduates, graduates and post graduate students. It was great to also administer a Masters in Education in Educational Leadership and Management program and to help many of my students achieve success through academic advisement. I love teaching English Language and Literature and find particular pleasure in guiding my students in discovering what it is they writing about and how to best approach this task. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to see the "bulb" switch on when my students realize and understand the joy of expressing themselves in a clear and unintimidated way. Life long learning is something I treasure and so I love teaching at any level and seeing the wonderment that comes with the gaining of knowledge and in original thoughts and ideas. My interests are many and varied and I love to explore all kinds of cultures and peoples, ways of life and as vegan and whole foods plant based enthusiast I have enjoyed learning new ways of cooking and sampling new flavors and tastes. I do love to take a four mile run/walk each day which I do in the metro park near where I live. I love nature and am a serious pantheist. I revel in music and like to take a swim when the opportunity lends itself. Recently I bought a flute and a recorder and am intending to learn to play them. I also own a guitar and have been somewhat successful in learning some simple compositions. I love writing poetry, reading and watching true crime documentaries.

Frequently Asked Questions

A tutor provides personalized feedback on your writing that goes beyond what you might get in a classroom setting. They can work with you on the specific areas where you struggle—whether that's developing a strong thesis, organizing your ideas, strengthening your argumentation, or refining your writing voice. Through one-on-one instruction, tutors help you understand the "why" behind writing conventions, not just the rules, so you can apply these skills to future assignments.

Grammar is the foundation—correct punctuation, sentence structure, and word usage make your writing clear and professional. Style, on the other hand, is about how you express your ideas: your word choice, sentence variety, tone, and voice. A strong essay needs both. Tutors help you master grammar mechanics while also developing your unique writing voice, so your essays are not just correct but engaging and persuasive.

Writer's block often happens when you're trying to write the perfect essay on the first try. Tutors teach strategies like freewriting, outlining before drafting, or breaking the essay into smaller chunks so you're not facing a blank page all at once. They can also help you move from confusion about your topic to a clear thesis statement, which gives you a roadmap for the rest of your writing. Many students find that talking through their ideas with a tutor helps clarify their thinking before they even sit down to write.

Organization is where many essays fall apart. A tutor helps you build a logical structure by identifying your main argument, organizing supporting points, and ensuring each paragraph connects back to your thesis. They teach you how to create outlines that serve as blueprints, how to write topic sentences that guide your reader, and how to use transitions that show the relationship between ideas. With practice and feedback, you'll develop the ability to organize complex arguments clearly on your own.

Yes. Citation formatting can feel overwhelming, but tutors break it down into manageable pieces. Whether you need help with MLA, APA, or Chicago style, a tutor can show you how to cite sources correctly and help you understand the purpose behind proper attribution. They also help you integrate quotes and paraphrased material smoothly into your essay so citations feel natural rather than awkward—and your arguments stay strong.

Literary analysis requires you to move beyond just understanding what happened in a text to understanding how and why the author created meaning. Tutors help you develop close reading skills—identifying literary devices, understanding themes, and analyzing character motivation. They then guide you in translating these observations into a coherent argument with specific textual evidence. This turns your analysis into a compelling essay that shows deeper engagement with the material.

Revision is where good essays become great ones. Rather than trying to fix everything at once, tutors teach you to revise in layers: first looking at big-picture issues like thesis clarity and argument strength, then moving to paragraph organization and transitions, and finally polishing grammar and style. They also help you develop self-editing skills so you can evaluate your own work critically. With this strategic approach, you'll learn to revise efficiently and see real improvement in your writing.
