I received an MFA from Harvard, a double BA from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating Summa Cum Laude at both schools. At Harvard I studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater/Moscow Art Theater Institute, and at Cal I studied English as well as Theater & Performance Studies, receiving scholarships in both departments, including the Departmental Citation (highest honor) for my honors thesis and production of Poet Laureate Robert Hass's "Time and Materials".As a tutor, I have worked for six years helping students with all SAT sections as well as English language and writing skills. I spent several years working as a Writing tutor at UC Berkeley's Student Learning Center, where I helped both long-term and drop-in college students with all sorts of writing help, including essays (literary, scientific, critical, sociological), applications and admissions statements, and creative writing. My last year there, I served as Senior Tutor, engaging with other tutors and mentoring new tutors to discuss and enact unique teaching pedagogies. In addition to the SAT and Writing, I tutor PSAT, basic Spanish, AP English, College Essays, voice and speech, Grammar, and Reading Comprehension. I love tutoring! It is hard to pick a favorite subject, but I have a special place in my heart for the art of writing - the sharing of a story, the power of an argument, or the creation of a world from a special perspective. I have worked with kids in 3rd and 4th grade through middle school, high school students (academic and pre-college focuses), and adults of all ages learning English, working on speech, or developing Reading and Writing skills. Additionally, I am fluent in Spanish and have tutored Spanish speakers.I firmly believe that students are not mere vessels for knowledge, but rather human beings with individual goals, hopes, and dreams. These are integral to their academic and pre-college work, since excellent work derives from one's sense of self, motivation, and experience. To this end, I always engage with students as collaborators. I work with them to develop "Sarah's SAT Prep Plan" or "Mike's Writing Workshop", as opposed to just a general course of study meant for anyone. Identifying specific problems and moving toward strong goals, I make sure students achieve changes that they can understand and internalize. Improvement is wonderful, but if students also know WHY a skill or approach is important, they will keep it with them for life. The artist's life is my bread and butter. I am a TV, film, and stage actor, and piano, trumpet, and guitar-player, and longtime creative writer. In regards to writing, nothing has been more educational and fulfilling than having my work published and produced. I used to run track and cross-country, but I am a little rusty these days. I like ballroom dancing, reciting Shakespeare, discussing films and plays, writing musical theatre, and singing. I enjoy good food, especially pasta, "Mad Men" (really, anything vintage), and New York City! As a tutor, I look forward to sharing my passion for life and learning with you!

I graduated with a BA from UC Berkeley in 2020 as a double major in Astrophysics and Classical Civilizations. My main areas of interest in those studies were planetary science and Greek-language literature, respectively. I'm passionate about both STEM subjects and the humanities, and love helping students translate their strengths in one area to another.I tutor in a broad range of subjects, but would especially love to help you learn more about Latin, English, and astronomy, because those were my favorite subjects in school. I'd also love to help you with prepping for any section of the ACT or SAT, because I remember how stressful those tests were, and want to help you feel as confident and calm as you can while you get ready for them.

I am a graduate of University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Math and a Bachelor of Arts in German, with University Honors and Mathematics Honors. Currently, I am pursuing my Doctorate in Mathematics from North Carolina State University, and I love every second of it. Math is a huge passion of mine, only matched by my love for teaching and tutoring. I believe that everyone can do math, and helping students realize that is why I do what I do. Math is exciting and useful, and I think it isn't always portrayed that way in the classroom. I hope to bring that side of math out in one-on-one tutoring. When I'm not working or studying, I love to watch movies and read all kinds of books, though classics and fantasy are my favorite.

I am a career changer looking to fulfill my passion to teach and help students succeed. I tutored math for the past 3 years to 5th 8th grade and I am very familiar with the common core state standards. I also tutor pre-algebra.As a former corporate level chemist of 20 years, I find it easy to clearly define larger learning objectives and break them down into smaller learning objectives. While studying for my Master's degree in Secondary and Special Education, I learned a lot about adolescent behaviors and learning styles (tweens & teens). This helps me to stay focused on the learning goals while catering to the individual learning style of the student, and that is why I prefer to teach 1 to 1 and to small groups instead of traditional classroom teaching.I dont use a cookie cutter approach, rather I adapt methodologies that show positive responses from the individual student. I dont carry a large student load because I really enjoy delving into the subject matter that I am teaching or tutoring and observing how students thinks their way through problems. I build a rapport which helps me to remove the fear and get down to business. I believe it is very important to nurture students strengths because it can help them to face their weak areas with lower anxiety and a positive attitude. With routine and a little hard work, I will support students to strengthen those areas and build confidence.

I am currently a pre-candidate in a chemistry doctoral program at the Univeristy of Michigan, receiving my Bachelor's of Science in chemistry from Truman State University. Having completed many science and math courses in my academic career, I understand how daunting such courses can be. With that in mind, I make it a personal goal to provide students that I instruct with tools to help them understand complex material and to also personalize material so that they are engaged in the subject matter (especially in the areas of math and science). Each student has a different learning style and it is important to help students find theirs so that they may become confident and, more importantly, independent. It is my belief that good tutors "teach themselves out of a job" as we should help students learn how to tackle hard concepts with their own skill-set and in so-doing students become less reliant on tutors. I have tutored for 3 years at the undergraduate level and taught swimming lessons for ages 3-18 for 7 years. Through these experiences I have garnered an immense passion for assisting others and I cannot wait to continue with this passion with you!

I am currently enrolled in Brooklyn College's Coordinated BA/MD program with the SUNY Downstate School of Medicine considering a double major in Chemistry and Psychology and double minors in Biochemistry and History.I have been tutoring for approximately 3 years now and truly enjoy it. I have past experiences tutoring students in levels of math up to college calculus (including preparation for advanced placement and regents examinations). Additionally, I have tutored World and United States History (including preparation for advanced placement and regents examinations) as well as preparation for the SAT and ACT.I find tutoring to be a very rewarding experience not just for myself but for my students- especially when I see the "light bulb" go off in someone's head and a concept that has been giving difficulties is finally understood! My teaching approach is very flexible and catered to the individual that I am working with because I believe that everyone has their own preferences and different learning styles. I try to present information in an engaging and simple way and often in more than one way for a better understanding.
