I began tutoring because I believe it is the duty of every individual, not just teachers, to pass on knowledge to future generations. Knowing I am helping students achieve goals that will aide them in reaching their dreams is what makes everything worth it for me.My dream is to become an academic medicine physician. A doctor responsible for both treating patients and teaching younger physicians how to become successful caregivers. As a future educator I consider every opportunity to work with a student valuable experience.I thank you for considering me as your tutor of choice and look forward to working with you or your student.

I am an actor, artist, and teacher, with my Bachelor’s degree from Boston College, and my Master's of Fine Arts from Brown University. At Boston College, my two majors were in Theatre Arts and Theology, and at Brown, I was a part of a three year conservatory in Acting and Theatre Arts.Over the past few years I have tutored students of all ages, from the middle school level all the way to college undergraduates and even middle-aged professionals. With every student, however, I start with one simple premise: how can we be ourselves as we seek to improve in our subjects? Perhaps my favorite subjects to teach are critical writing and essay coaching, and it is crucial in these areas that we stay true to ourselves, stand behind our opinions, and use language as a powerful and persuasive tool. My job as a tutor is not to tell my students what to think, but to give them the rhetorical tools to express their opinions clearly and concisely. The same premise applies to my reading comprehension and literature tutoring. I want my students to get closer to the writer, to see how they are similar, to understand more about themselves as they work to understand the material. Of course, students should enjoy themselves in all of their academic endeavors, and I like to have fun in my tutoring sessions. As an actor I usually play the role of the fool, so when I’m teaching I like to keep the energy light and fast, while still maintaining a rigorous learning environment. When I’m not teaching or acting I like to spend as much time as possible outdoors biking, hiking, fishing, swimming - you name it, I love being outside. I also really enjoy traveling and adventuring. I've been all over the world. I've lived in Scotland, London, and Sweden, and I've visited Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, Ireland, and Canada. My spirit for adventure also makes me a great geography tutor, and I like to ignite that passion for learning and travel in my students.

I am a graduate of Abilene Christian University, where I received a Bachelor's in Nursing Science. Since becoming an RN I have practiced nursing in multiple states at faculties like Vanderbilt and UNC. I have worked in variety of different nursing specialties such as ICU, Burn (Adult and Pediatric), Transplant, Cardiac Care and Neurology. I also completed 140 hours of NICU training. One of my favorite parts of being a nurse has been the opportunity to precept, mentor and prepare new nurses and nursing students for this awesome profession. My interest in the sciences became insatiable in high school as I tackled my first Anatomy and Physiology class, and led me to further my education in courses such as Advanced Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Microbiology, Biology, and Health Science. After being accepted to nursing school I focused on Pharmacology, Ethical Nursing, Medical Surgical Concepts, Critical Care Concepts, Pathophysiology and more. I have extensive knowledge of NCLEX preparation and remember fondly the days spent studying in perpetuity to do well on the exam.I think two of the most important parts of learning are foundational knowledge and confidence in yourself. Often times they go hand in hand and I like to build on both of those skills as we master any content :)

I am an Assistant Director and 8th grade history teacher at a charter school in downtown Phoenix. I previously taught 3rd and 6th grade all subjects (math, science, history, language arts, writing and phonics). I have a teaching license in elementary education and have obtained a Master's in Elementary Education at Arizona State University. I also obtained my B.A. from Michigan State University with a double major in Humanities-Pre-Law and Women's Studies.I have been tutoring children for five years. While attending Michigan State University, I tutored 5th graders at a inner city elementary school as well as a preschooler and kindergartener whom attended a Montessori school. While in Phoenix, during my first year of teaching I tutored a 1st grader as well as students of various grades K-8 at my school. While I am passionate about every subject I teach, I especially enjoy math, english language arts and history. Mastering these subjects are pivotal to the success of elementary students and I enjoy creating different activities to help kids become excited about and invested in the subject. I believe that it is important to treat each child as an individual and customize the work to fit their needs and interests. Tutoring is much more than providing academic assistance to children, it is about building trusting relationships and instilling in them confidence to help them reach their full potential.I am very well rounded with many different interests. I love to spend time with family and friends, read, exercise, enjoy the outdoors, camp, roller blade, travel, cook, music, movies, arts and crafts, and the list goes on!

In 2004 I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Crime, Law, and Justice. I then went back to school at Barry University in Miami, Florida and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biomedical and Forensic Photography in 2012. I now work as a Forensic Photographer with the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory. Throughout my life, I have constantly helped out in my mother's elementary school classroom. I would read to her class and tutor those struggling in reading as well as math. Some of these students returned for tutoring all the way through middle school. In college, I tutored a student in the basics of photography. While I have worked with students in math, logic, reading, grammar, photography study skills, and more, math and logic are my favorites to tutor. I think the most important thing is to convey that learning can be fun. If it is fun, we are more inclined to do it! I love to play logic games, math games, and word games to learn in a new way. Additionally, learning different concepts' real-world applications can make a lesson more meaningful to a student. In my free time, I love to rock climb, run, take my dog to the park, read, do crossword puzzles, and play bass drum in my drum corps!

Frequently Asked Questions

A tutor provides personalized feedback on your writing that goes beyond what you might get in a classroom setting. They can work with you on the specific areas where you struggle—whether that's developing a strong thesis, organizing your ideas, strengthening your argumentation, or refining your writing voice. Through one-on-one instruction, tutors help you understand the "why" behind writing conventions, not just the rules, so you can apply these skills to future assignments.

Grammar is the foundation—correct punctuation, sentence structure, and word usage make your writing clear and professional. Style, on the other hand, is about how you express your ideas: your word choice, sentence variety, tone, and voice. A strong essay needs both. Tutors help you master grammar mechanics while also developing your unique writing voice, so your essays are not just correct but engaging and persuasive.

Writer's block often happens when you're trying to write the perfect essay on the first try. Tutors teach strategies like freewriting, outlining before drafting, or breaking the essay into smaller chunks so you're not facing a blank page all at once. They can also help you move from confusion about your topic to a clear thesis statement, which gives you a roadmap for the rest of your writing. Many students find that talking through their ideas with a tutor helps clarify their thinking before they even sit down to write.

Organization is where many essays fall apart. A tutor helps you build a logical structure by identifying your main argument, organizing supporting points, and ensuring each paragraph connects back to your thesis. They teach you how to create outlines that serve as blueprints, how to write topic sentences that guide your reader, and how to use transitions that show the relationship between ideas. With practice and feedback, you'll develop the ability to organize complex arguments clearly on your own.

Yes. Citation formatting can feel overwhelming, but tutors break it down into manageable pieces. Whether you need help with MLA, APA, or Chicago style, a tutor can show you how to cite sources correctly and help you understand the purpose behind proper attribution. They also help you integrate quotes and paraphrased material smoothly into your essay so citations feel natural rather than awkward—and your arguments stay strong.

Literary analysis requires you to move beyond just understanding what happened in a text to understanding how and why the author created meaning. Tutors help you develop close reading skills—identifying literary devices, understanding themes, and analyzing character motivation. They then guide you in translating these observations into a coherent argument with specific textual evidence. This turns your analysis into a compelling essay that shows deeper engagement with the material.

Revision is where good essays become great ones. Rather than trying to fix everything at once, tutors teach you to revise in layers: first looking at big-picture issues like thesis clarity and argument strength, then moving to paragraph organization and transitions, and finally polishing grammar and style. They also help you develop self-editing skills so you can evaluate your own work critically. With this strategic approach, you'll learn to revise efficiently and see real improvement in your writing.
